Shiny new thread.

Hopefully won't get derailed.

OP posts:

"I have to question why there are so many around who claim disability?"

OP posts:
BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 10:13

"Just under 1 in 6 people of working age in the Uk have a disability.
Almost 1 in 2 over 65 and 1 in 14 children also have a disability.
The figures are amongst the highest in Europe. In Romania, for example, the adult working age is around 1 in 25.
We seemingly are a country of very poor health."

Firmly. Entrenched.
This is what passes for 'valid debate'

We can give it all we like but I don't see much evidence of being listened to, candy.

BishopBrennansArse · 18/10/2016 10:49

Appears to be more geared towards criminality but I'm watching it...

Im on it challanging youngsters could be kids coming out of care to late teens with SN in supported living its a bit not on my door step

Mozfan1 · 18/10/2016 11:34

Surely it wouldn't be called 'challenging youngsters' anyway? I was going to comment on the thread but knew I would get in a row with someone. It could mean children with disabilities or anything for gods sake!!! Angry

Yeah, that one cut me too. As if someone who has had a challenging background should be locked away and being allowed to 'roam around' MUST mean they are going to do something awful. For gods sake. There was even someone on there saying that they WORK with these very types of children and they consequently wouldn't recommend living near a place such as this.

It's supported living for young adults with LDs here. I know of at least 16 units within 500 metres of my front door. I welcome it - it's what I want for my kids as I don't want them plunged into a situation when me and DH aren't here any more.

Ive posted on the benefit scroungers thread. I'm sure posters will be falling over themselves to educate themselves better. And I'll be criticised for my viewpoint and that I don't understand, I've got it wrong. And it's alright because I am genuine, it's all the other liars.

Franknsteen · 18/10/2016 14:54

Supportive independant living is very big here as well, from what i understand. BUT is so completely hard to actually get into the system.

Akire · 18/10/2016 17:51

Read the supported living next door thread, can see her concerns but what made me really sad is that one poster said "I used to work as carer and people complained in petty ways over men with learning disabilities singing in shower, or wanting to sit wall in morning waiting for bus and saying hello." You know like normal things they MADE residents stop this. Breaks my heart. If you are "normal" and want to sit in front wall smoking all sorts and shouting at neighbours all day nothing you can do, but young disabled people are forced to "behave" shut up wait inside. Least sensitive normal people may actual have to nod and say good morning to another human. You think it was Victorian times. It's often lack of rage that so upsetting!!

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 17:54

I've reported that thread. Not holding my breath

Owllady · 18/10/2016 18:13

I agree with fanjo tbh
Don't normal people sing in the shower ffs ?!

Akire · 18/10/2016 18:17

Can you imagine uproar if my blond blue eyed twin 6y old girls like to sit on front wall and say hi while waiting for lift to school and neighbours complain uproar!! Learning Disabilites seen as threating-unpalatable - something to be hidden-other rights more important than theirs- nobody said a word.

60sname · 18/10/2016 18:23

Auser why? The vast majority of the replies commented assuming that it was NT people with challenging behaviour (which the OP has now confirmed), not people with learning difficulties.

Ausernotanumber · 18/10/2016 18:23

60sname did you read the thread?

60sname · 18/10/2016 18:24

*Apologies, learning disabilities

60sname · 18/10/2016 18:24

Auser yes I did
