Zombie Thread warning

This seems to have changed from a large (and perhaps confusing) zombie to a tiny and easily missed sent nice in ordinary black letters.

I'm not sure this is an improvement.

I'm actually having some trouble finding a thread that has any indication of zombieness at all. It almost looks as if there's work being undertaken on the old threads. (The cellars of AIBU have no threads at all for example - just pages with numbers for me.)

Could you link to a relevant thread so that I can see, Soup? Smile

A huge proportion of those threads which are 'resurrected' are the subject of final 'dubious' posts as far as I can see. Why MNHQ don't simply just lock them - at least - is beyond me.

SoupDragon · 29/09/2016 15:55

There was one on about page 4000 of the relationships topic!!

Sorry, 1000 not 4000.

Zombie Thread warning
OP posts:
cozietoesie · 29/09/2016 16:08

Strewth - page 1000? Grin

I just found one of my own 'watched' threads that hadn't been posted on for some 14 months though. Nothing on the bottom. Nada.

They're doing something behind the scenes, I reckon.

Oh - and I agree entirely. That polite little black typed message is not even going to be noticed half the time. It may be only part of something larger though. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. Wink

cozietoesie · 29/09/2016 16:14

Sorry - that thread I mentioned did have the little black sentence.

And even studying it, I didn't see it.

Q.E.D I think? Grin

SoupDragon · 04/10/2016 09:21

Bump!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 12/10/2016 07:14

Has the zombie warning disappeared altogether or does it now disappear after just one post?

I've just been on a thread that has one spam post and there's no warning at the bottom.

There have been far more zombie resurrections than usual recently.

OP posts:
DesolateWaist · 12/10/2016 07:18

I think there should be a big flashing sign in the op too.

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 12/10/2016 07:21

I agree that ticky boxes are the way to go.

I'd even go so far as to make Zombie resurrection something like the Sex topic that only posters with a 3 month track record could do - just because you've already got the "3 month old user" methodology set up and ready to use and the most egregious and irritating Voodoo priests are the brand new spammers.

KatherineMumsnet · 12/10/2016 18:43

Hi all,

There has indeed been a change. There will be no zombie image and no warning at the top of the thread anymore. Instead just below where you type your message to post on the thread, you will see the following discrete wording:

FYI this thread hasn't been posted on for over a year.

We always like to hear feedback, good and bad, so please do keep it coming.

Thanks Flowers

DesolateWaist · 12/10/2016 18:55

Why the change though?

JedRambosteen · 12/10/2016 18:58

I liked the zombie. I will miss it.

MrsBellefleur · 12/10/2016 19:01

That's rubbish, hardly anyone took notice of the zombie so no one will notice that one liner.

SoupDragon · 12/10/2016 19:01

We always like to hear feedback, good and bad, so please do keep it coming.

Well, 1) it's rubbish because it's practically invisible even if you're looking for it and 2) it disappears after one post.

Basically, it's pointless!

OP posts:
HalloToJasonIsaacs · 12/10/2016 19:04

Why have you made the morning more discrete (or even discreet)? Do you think we need more zombie threads resurrected, so you don't want to put people off? If you don't want the zombie then that's your prerogative, but at least make the warning large enough and bold enough to actually see. And, IMO, give people an "Are you sure?" ticky box.

And ban newbies from doing it.

HalloToJasonIsaacs · 12/10/2016 19:06

And I have fallen victim to Muphry's law. That should read "warning" not "morning". Serves me right for being pedantic.

strawberrypenguin · 12/10/2016 19:11

I'd actually prefer a zombie warning on the OP of the thread. I just read most of the way through a long thread before realising it was a zombie one!

Trills · 12/10/2016 19:39

In your hair

in your hai-ee-ai-air

Zom bay

Zom bay

Zom bay bay bay

Trills · 12/10/2016 19:39

I've been told it's head, but I spent the best part of 20 years thinking it was hair and I see no reason to stop now.

cozietoesie · 12/10/2016 19:46

Katherine

Why don't you just lock them? After 6 months, say. That would solve all these issues and still leave people able to read them.
