Am I being unreasonable? - to expect the adverts on MN to be in english rather than German?

Not really, I am assuming I must be going through a server in Germany or soemthing and that your software is clever enough to tailor adverts by geography? or not?

Does everybody have German adverts?
Should I be embarrassed to reaveal it's taken me all day to realise?
Why do I have adverts all of a sudden?

oh the questions!

Where?

tortoise · 05/02/2007 17:06

The adverts at the side have disappeared for some reason on mine! But i keep clicking on the empty space by accident and then the page pops up!

All in English though.

FatFikAndFugly · 05/02/2007 17:07

I never used to get adverts but now I do. German ones.

I thought it was just me because I am in Germany.
Was getting fed up of them too, though. 'Work from home! Combine job and family!' And then when you click on it they won't tell you what line of work it is I'd much rather have Boden et al.

FatFikAndFugly · 05/02/2007 17:09

I can't read them.

See I'm at home now and they are English.

Oh the questions indeed FFF. We'll have a look into this. Just to confirm, you're getting German ads through a UK computer?
Thanks MNHQ

FatFikAndFugly · 05/02/2007 18:39

yes located in the UK but was at work, server could be in Germany which would mean a German gateway? maybe? possibly? Oh I don't know, I've only worked in IT 10years, how would I know?!?

I usually have a blank space where the adverts are but today I had German ones too! I am in Greece by the way

mamama · 05/02/2007 18:58

I am in the US and have American adverts, which I gather is what I am meant to have. However I HATE them.

I'd much rather have the old Boden & Bump2three ones which didn't pop up, take over my screen and cause me to accidentally click on them. No, I do not want to earn a degree at the University of Phoenix...

FatFikAndFugly · 05/02/2007 18:59

oh I had the rather annoying univerity of pheonix ad the other day.

Hello FFF,
If your work computer presents a "public" ip address that's in Germany, like because you work for a German company, then yes you might get German adverts. You might not have had them before if the ad serving company was not carrying anything aimed at Germany - there would have just been empty space. I'm in the US currently, and I get American ads (for similar reasons.)

Cheers,
Tech

FatFikAndFugly · 05/02/2007 19:05

I work for an American company, could be German. I prefeer the blank space.. suppose that's too much to ask?

I don't like the German ads either - they're far too sensible and serious. I want mad Johnnie and his hotch potch Henley tees.
