But sometimes people want to have a discussion about something with the people who are here now rather than checking the archives to read a thread they were not part of. People are generally happy to have the same old discussions over and over again anyway.

I don't think there's anything outrageous on atm is there?

Spidermama · 30/01/2007 23:04

The thing is though, of course we will be repeating threads which have already been discussed. The person who started the thread probably wasn't around when it was discussed.
I don't like this idea that we should be forced to plough through archives just in case a subject has ever been mentioned before. People come and go. MN is a living, breathing site and I love it for that.

If I see a thread which I've already done to death I simply don't go on it but I think it's a bit unfair to critisise people for starting threads which have already been covered.

Some people don't spend 8 hours a day on MN.

hunkermunker · 30/01/2007 23:06

Can we have a "can we not have an x, y or z thread button on MN" thread tick box, please?

MrsSpoon · 30/01/2007 23:06

How about an Active Conversations without Active Conversation button. Wouldn't that be fun?

percypig · 30/01/2007 23:09

I agree with cod and Tatties. As a relatively new poster I lurked for quite a few months and gleaned lots of really useful info and advice from doing searches. However I can totally understand why someone would want to 'talk' to another poster about an issue and discuss their own views rather than simply reading those of others.

Having said that I don't tend to get too annoyed by many things, but am probably judgemental and choose to ignore the threads I'm likely to either be annoyed by or find odd/disturbing - eg the butt plug thing which I've seen references to...but I'm not going to read it.

kathryn77 · 30/01/2007 23:31

I agree with percy pig completely. New mums have new questions and should be able to ask them without being mocked.
