GIANT MN logo!

Every so often I'll click on a thread or topic and get the MN logo filling the whole screen. Refreshing the page makes it all go normal again. Anyone else?

Well no, it isn't subtle these days, it's increasingly blatant and appears to be being done with increasing disregard for MNers online safety - therein lies the problem.

'Subliminal marketing' makes it sound like you think I'm from the tin-foil hat brigade. I'm not, I'm using normal consumer security tools which are telling me that MN scores very badly compared with FB, Twitter, Google, Outlook, Amazon, Ebay and several other forums I'm on in terms of tracking.

People's devices are being infected with porn malware from your site. I read the porn pop-up thread and the posts from someone whose child's kindle was cross-infected. How lucky are you (and they) that they got the tesco voucher spam and not the other stuff? Can you imagine the headlines?

I do get that you need advertising revenue. There's a balance to be struck though, isn't there? I don't think you're achieving that balance at the moment.

Probably the wrong place but I have had issues on google chrome recently. It will not let me browse AT ALL without logging in. Which is fine but if I am just mindlessly flicking, really annoying. Also, massive words sometimes like site is not loading properly when I click to change scream. The log in thing is more annoying. Every single thread I click on says I have to be a member. I am, but just not wishing to respond, log in.

I made a screenshot last night and meant to report it but I forgot until I saw this thread. I've been getting this a lot recently and also having to log in. What's going on? I see loads of complaints about viruses, etc. Needs sorting!

I bet we have to piss about changing passwords again.

I'm pretty sure someone from HQ said the having to log in to lurk thing, was something they were trying out?

I hope they don't decide to keep that feature.

If it's designed to encourage people to sign up to MN, I think it'll backfire.

Who wants to be 'forced' to join a website that they haven't been able to at least read, in order to find out if they would like it or not?

I think the subliminal comment was meant to refer to the giant logo, not the comment about ad companies tracking! Bit unfortunate though

I think that the "adchoices" ads need serious looking at. I can see that they were a good idea when they first started using them because it takes some of the work out of ad management, but they are always the ads that people complain about, they've displayed extremely inappropriate content (porn popups, redirects) and I would be totally unsurprised to realise that that is where all this tracking is coming from too (with the FB, pinterest etc being the social media buttons.) I see them all around the web and often displaying dubious content. I don't think they are a very trustworthy company which surprises me hugely that MN are happy to continue using them when in the past they used to be extremely stringent on ad content. I don't get it? Is it ignorance or do they not care any more?

I wonder why they don't use google ads or similar rather than this company which seem to be a handy backdoor for all kinds of malicious crap.

I've had the giant logo a couple of times too, on the desktop, and using adblock plus.

The giant MN logo has been bugging my ipad all week now it's on my laptop!!!! What is going on, are we going to have a summer of this ?

Its just happened to me again twice in a matter of seconds while clicking on different threads.

I'm getting it too - this screen shot was when I was trying to see Active Convos.

I'm also still getting the page jumping down every page I click on and the huge gap before my watched threads or searched for threads which means I have to scroll down past all the boxes on the right before they can be seen.

There really does seem to be a lot of tech issues at the moment

Also been getting this in the last couple of days: click on a thread, get the giant logo, click back a page and all is normal, click on the thread again and it's ok. Really weird. On Safari on iPad.

Yup, still getting it. New windows 10, and Chrome. Last week my Avast was saying that MN site was a threat...

Our Tech team are still tinkering away and will hopefully put a fix in soon, but for now the only way round it for me has been to copy the web address for the thread that's playing up over to a new tab - the thread usually opens fine the second time.

It's a pain, but at least I can read the threads and do my job!

Me too - also laptop not mobile, on Opera.

Last time DP solved mine for me by going on to zoom in the menu - for some reason it had gone on to 500% zoom.

This keeps happening to me too. More weirdly for the briefest moment it pops up with "hello XXXX" (shows my middle name) can't remember putting in my middle name when registering
