I see Northern Irish posters are looking for their own section on Mumsnet.
May we have an Irish section please ?There appear to be lots of Irish posters on this brilliant forum.

Can I join too? Irish but have lived in England 20 years, but seriously considering moving back in 5 years, once my DS is finished school.

vvviola · 11/07/2016 12:57

We went to a campsite in France last year where my son met about a dozen people he knew.

Oh, I can well imagine. I went on a work abroad programme once I left college. There were 50 of us from all areas of the country. Only one person couldn't make a link to at least one other person within about 10 minutes of us sitting down. Grin

It completely baffles my DH. He's from NZ, so similar population size, but without the seemingly endless links and networks Grin

ASheepInWolfsClothing · 11/07/2016 13:04

I'm in for craic net tooSmile I've tried the Rollercoaster / magicmum/ boards (good for info but the mods love their rules!) even tried heymammy but I love mn for the wealth of information the posters here have !! Somewhere to ask specific questions would be great Grin

DramaAlpaca · 11/07/2016 13:10

Are we allowed to poke (a little bit of) fun at the English if we get our own section?

Oh please do Maryz, that's fine by me. In Ireland 16 years and I'm still a blow-in. But then, my FIL has been in his village over 60 years and still thinks of himself a blow-in, so there's no hope for me. And I don't mind a bit of gentle piss-taking at all I get it all the time from my lovely BIL Grin

I have to admit I changed my ideas of a suitable children's bed time as soon as we moved here, mainly because my three objected to being put to bed hours before their Irish cousins. We like to make the most of the long evenings here in the West.

KanyesVest · 11/07/2016 14:34

We were in Disney world, Orlando, on Christmas day a million years ago with about two thirds of America and my dad met someone he worked with. Irish people are ridiculous.

I'm on my way home to a proper packet of crisps. I'll happily take tayto, king, hunky dorey or even the new fancy upstart ones. All I've had this week was tasteless Walkers or weirdly sweet own brand alleged cheese and onion yokes. (In all other ways, Wales is fantastic.)

Ilovetea82 · 11/07/2016 14:59

Also would love an Irish page, haven't lived at home for ten years or so now but it's still home.

MaisieDotes · 11/07/2016 15:28

SnipSnipMrBurgess brilliant nickname btw!

LokisUnderpants · 11/07/2016 15:33

I'll join in happily. Great for info on specific Oirish schtuff.

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 11/07/2016 15:53

Right, I am going to report this thread to HQ now so they might give it a read.

Ilovetea82

Home is home no matter how long you have been away

CamilleClaudel · 11/07/2016 15:58

Count me in.

CamilleClaudel · 11/07/2016 15:58

Though I will obviously suspect we all would actually turn out to know one another's cousin's dog's headnun. Grin

FriteFuaite · 11/07/2016 16:05

I've got Eurocycles Eurobaby interested in advertising on craicnet!! ( Ah no, I haven't, I just thought of them Grin)

Most annoying ad EVER Angry

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 11/07/2016 16:26

Craicnet - I love it ! Would it deter advertisers though? Grin

SecondRow · 11/07/2016 16:50

Supporting! Been abroad a long time but alays looking for info on family stuff for when we're home on holidays. And frankly, I want that info presented in that ineffable MN style Wine No other site will do!

FarelyKnuts · 11/07/2016 21:00

Bumping irish style

ThisIsntFunnyDean · 11/07/2016 21:23

feckthemall · 11/07/2016 21:24

Sure lookit, we'll keep the thread going farelyknuts.

CiderwithBuda · 11/07/2016 22:14

Really ThisisntfunnyDean? road beginning with T? north side of Dublin?

Ireland is ridiculous. DH is British and first time he came home with me we spent a couple of nights with my parents have in Dublin and then went to
Galway. Checked into Great Southern Hotel and went for a wander. Walking back across Eyre Square a group of girls were taking a group photo and asked us to take it. DH was taking pic when suddenly a couple of girls should my name. Grew up around the corner and were friends wig my younger sisters. We then looked for somewhere for dinner. Went into a restaurant and were waiting for a table when suddenly a guy came up behind me and asked me to leave as he knew my sort. A guy from Cork that I had worked with in Shelbourne Hotel a few years before. He was working in the restaurant. DH was astounded. We ended up living in Vietnam and I met a guy who lived in th same road as a good friend and his mum and mine had been friends for a while when we were younger. It's scary!

CremeEggThief · 11/07/2016 22:29

You could choose any of your Irish Facebook friends and see that you know that person through at least three other connectionsSmile.

ThisIsntFunnyDean · 11/07/2016 23:33

Yep cider, that's the one.. Ends in E. I was thinking of it while reading your post but the mention of the factories sealed it for me.

Pigeon314 · 11/07/2016 23:58

Maryz, I'm online dating in Ireland and I was on the bus to meet this guy in Dublin when I got a friend request. Oops, he'd been stalking me and his fat finger accidently pressed send request. So on the bus I could see that although we don't actually have any mutual fb friends, he knows a couple of people I went to school with (that doesn't bother me ). He also has people on his fb list who are mutual friends of my friends, including one very good friend! That's the first time that has happened to me and he's been by FAR the best of the people I've met on line so far. So maybe it's not that bad. The mutual connections I mean.

Heymammy sounds like a joke!

Pigeon314 · 12/07/2016 00:12

Also, another online dating in Ireland story........
I was whatsapping a guy I clicked with, let me call him Peter, soon he pops up in my people you may know. I click on him and his settings are really private. Can't even view his friends. Well done mate. There's a lot of weirdos out there. But his sur name sounded familiar. And I just had a hunch. I know, I know, internet stalkin' is a slippery fuckin' slope but I went back to the fb list of an acquaintance cos I thought that's where I'd seen that sur name before, and sure enough, woman with the same sur name, her settings all completely public chit chatting about her holiday three weeks ago with *peter and the boys.

deadringer · 12/07/2016 00:26

Oooooh can I join in too? I had a teddies ice cream in the peoples Park yesterday too, during a rare few minutes of sunshine. Come on now, it wouldn't be a real irish thread if we didn't bitch about the weather.
