I see Northern Irish posters are looking for their own section on Mumsnet.
May we have an Irish section please ?There appear to be lots of Irish posters on this brilliant forum.

It was a thread where the OP was a DC emailing/ texting his "mam" to tell her where he was.

He was using a friend's phone, it must have been his friend's mother's phone and she must have been logged into MN.

That's if it was genuine. The thread was so funny as no one could make out what the text said. Personally I have a PhD in deciphering random texts, thanks to DD.

difm · 13/07/2016 13:45

Why aren't threads like that allowed? It was great!

WhisperingLoudly · 13/07/2016 14:01

Oh crikey! I'm just about to sign up for a years lease on a house that I've never seen in a country I've spent three days in Shock Fingers crossed Grin

middlings · 13/07/2016 14:07

Craicnet! Definitely that.

And so long as it's not "Mom" which seems to have invaded South Dublin since I left I'm all good.

Mine was a Mummy, not a Mammy. She hates Mammy - not sure why - but I suspect jackeen snobbery. My English children call me Mummy.....so I guess it was a way of preparing me for the future.

Topiary if anyone felt nervous about being identified, would they not just go to the topic specific boards on MN? I had great support back in the day on the infertility boards.

BlueLeopard · 13/07/2016 14:10

Another Irish person here to join the cry for our own corner of MN.

As for name, I like Craicnet but take the point about it having serious stuff to discuss. A couple of other fun ones:
The Lovely Bottoms Club
Glenroe

KittyOShea · 13/07/2016 14:12

How about The Immersion Grin

MaisieDotes · 13/07/2016 14:21

Good luck whispering!

When are you moving in?

Floggingmolly · 13/07/2016 14:25

The Hot Press.

BlueLeopard · 13/07/2016 14:28

WhisperingLoudly · 13/07/2016 14:59

Thanks maisie & mary

We're going to be in Booterstown. Moving mid August

vvviola · 13/07/2016 15:03

I think we should ask the NornIron people if they want one Irishnet of if they want it separate

Oh, Maryz, you just had to bring politics into it WinkGrin (tongue firmly in cheek, in case it wasn't obvious!)

TopiaryBun · 13/07/2016 15:08

Oh, it was only a thought in relation to people saying they thought Craicnet might put off people who wanted to post about serious topics. I've no agenda with Craicnet vs Irishnet --despite a secret wish to call it Taytonet or CulchiesandJackeensNet or something. Grin

Maryz, my four year old is about to start school in England, and I have had to train myself not to expect an octogenarian nun to jump out a corner frothing bigotry and sacraments and trying to sell you The Pioneer magazine. Instead, I keep meeting mild-mannered teachers in Birkenstocks who are clearly not about to ask about 'mixed marriages' (always said in a hushed voice, as if it was sexual, which it was, of course, those Protestant bowsies getting their godless hands on fine Catholic men etc etc) or get out the wooden spoon. The relief.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 13/07/2016 16:10

Booterstown is lovely Whispering. Hope you have a really lovely time there.

Darwinisafish · 13/07/2016 17:25

geekaMaxima · 13/07/2016 17:48

Ooh The Hot Press is a good un Grin

hollyisalovelyname · 13/07/2016 17:53

Oops La Queen.
I like The Hot Press.
My mum always referred to her mother as Mom.
She was from a very rural area.
I hate Ma.
My dbro calls my Mum that. Yuck
Dcs when young call me Mummy.
Older dcs call me Mum.
Mum is Mum ( obvs)
Mother or Mam when speaking directly to her

Am really liking the hotpress. What do they call them I the UK? I'm always bemused by the differences between us considering how intertwined we are/have been.

WhisperingLoudly · 13/07/2016 18:01

I think the equivalent of the hot press is "the airing cupboard" which makes the hot press a nice play on the uk version- somewhere to air your thoughts Smile

I'm in for an Irish thread. Lived in Booterstown for about a year years ago when I worked at UCD, nice place. Suspect I would think it even lovelier now given some of the places I have spent time in since then!

CmereTilliTellYa · 13/07/2016 18:32

Please let's call it the Hot Press - love that idea
