Threads I'm watching have disappeared

On "threads I'm watching" it says
37 discussions have messages
But it's only showing me 2 discussions - everything else has disappeared

How can I get them back?

If they were in chat they are deleted after so many days.

No they are not in chat
I added a couple of threads yesterday but today I have nothing showing in the watched list at all
