New member profile facility

Hello all,

We've added a function to Mumsnset so that you can set up a page about yourself that other people will eventually be able to see when they click your name on Talk. We figured this would work more easiliy better than starting a "member profile" thread, though you can of course still do that if you want to. If you go to the "my registration" link above you can get started from there if you'd like to set up a profile. This is of course totally optional, and only for those as want to do it. A number of people have expressed an interest in being able to do that over the months. If you do want to, remember you can answer as many or as few of the questions as you like.

You can set your profile to be "private" so only you can see it, or visible to all mumsnetters. There's also an intermediate level "Mumsnet mates" that lets you choose who can see it. You can set up a list of "mates" by following the "Mumsnet mates" link and typing their talk names into a box.

You can also set up a photo gallery for any pictures you'd to share with other Mumsnetters. For the moment, you can set these to be either public (any registered Mumsnetter could see them) or private to you. We'll add the intermediate level to them over the next day or so.

Anyway, take a look and, as ever, tell us what you think. It's still a work in progress, so we'd appreciate input on what people think works and what doesn't.

I've set up a sample page about me (must be mad). You can see it here .

Best wishes,
Tech

There's no photos on yours, quad. I don't think I'll set one up, I'm not very good at that sort of thing. Total tecnophobe, me.

Sorry the updates didn't happen over the weekend. My excuse is below in the form of story of my weekend. I had planned to go up to see my folks in Leeds yesterday on the train and finish stuff off in nice bargain weekend first carriage with free tea and coffee.....

Saturday
8am. Get up. Drive to Forest Hill to pick up a package.
Get stuck on Walworth Road for an hour driving back - roadworks. Get back to Highbury 11 am.
Check internet for trains to Leeds. Engineering work. Will take 4 hours and two changes and a bus. Ponder whether to drive or call whole thing off.
11:15 am. Power in house goes off - this makes decision for me. Set off driving.
Traffic M1 widening Luton blah blah blah. Get to Leeds about 4.
Try to get mum and dad's broadband going. Won't work. Spend two hours on phone with various BT call centre persons who convince me router may be dodgy (it's mine and works in my house but nature has strange ways)

Sunday
Have offered to make Sunday lunch as treat for mother so put beef on. Turn down oven after 20 minutes as instructed by Delia. Go out. Go into Maplins. Sold out of routers. Drive to Comet get another one. Costs 60 quid. Take it home. Doesn't work. Meantime oven has blown out on turning down and house stinks like gas explosion about to happen.
Open all doors and let gale blow through for a few minutes. Relight oven. Fear for future of beef joint.
Another hour on phone with BT, which ends with them saying router must be broken. Hang up in some level of crossness.
Dinner. Actually remarkably OK despite interruption to cooking process.
6:30pm. Set off back to London. Get as far as Sheffield. Have to slow down to 30 mph as there is a SNOW STORM. Think may die any minute.
Traffic comes to a halt at Luton. Not too fussed as am happily screaming along with car stereo.
Get home. Still no power. Dark. Drive to friend's house to borrow a torch.
Get back to house. Fuses all intact. Odd.
Go downstairs to other flat in house. Turns out their circuit breakers went yesterday and when they put all the switches back to "up" they also put up the main on/off switch for my flat. Put it back down and lights come back on.
Go in kitchen. Get wet feet as freezer has deposited ice on floor as water. Food in freezer ruined.

Midnight. Off to bed. May stay there for some time.......

Aw, Tech! Hae a hot toddy with strange phallic accoutrements

Not sure it'll make you feel better, but it gave me the opportunity to type "phallic accoutrements" which has cheered me up no end, so that's nice.
