If you delete threads, MNHQ, why do still leave the titles up in the trending box?

It's really frustrating to see something that piques your interest - only to find when you click on the link, that it's been deleted.

Surely if you delete the thread you can delete the link as well?

I think its so people know where the thread they were following has gone.

Becca19962014 · 25/05/2016 16:49

It's to do with how trending works now, which by the number of people clicking on the title. I don't think there's anything MNHQ can do about it as it is automatic (there was a discussion on here about it before), it's a bit of a design flaw IMHO but that's why it happens.

Jemmima · 25/05/2016 16:53

O thats interesting. I thought that if they could delete the thread then they could delete what is in trending. Thanks for explaining. :)

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 16:55

Trending is a useless auto-herding device to hell.

Becca19962014 · 25/05/2016 17:01

Or what liney said Grin

dodobookends · 25/05/2016 17:57

Two of the five 'trending' threads as I type this right now are deleted threads. There's been more today as well.

It is a bit tiresome.

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 17:59

And there's going to be loads more shortly.

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 18:06

Maybe Trending is fuelling trolling. 'Lets see if we can get all of the Trending box deleted and make the site look like a right sad load of crap.'

So, start a clickbait thread. Child suicide attempt / emailing naked pictures at work / various sexual behaviours and rows / etc

Report it yourself if no one else does.

Sit back and laugh at MN.

stilllovingmysleep · 25/05/2016 19:11

why are threads being deleted though? There was one very interesting thread I was following and it got deleted, have no idea why!

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 19:17

Because it was reported for trolling, and it was indeed trolling.

stilllovingmysleep · 25/05/2016 19:20

Unbelievable. If it's the thread I'm thinking about (about the little boy) it is beyond comprehension why someone would do that!!

stilllovingmysleep · 25/05/2016 19:20

And how on earth does MN know when something is trolling?!

SouthWestmom · 25/05/2016 19:21

Did the thread about child suicide bid go?

iwouldgoouttonight · 25/05/2016 19:23

Was the thread about the little boy who threatened suicide a troll? Shock

LineyReborn · 25/05/2016 19:25

MNHQ does not comment on procedure.

But even I can do an advanced search, spot similarities in posting styles on different threads, and report, and MNHQ can check account histories and the data that shows internet addresses.

Sometimes the OP are just obviously contradicting themselves and lying.

BIWI · 25/05/2016 20:30

So no reply from MNHQ then? Hmm

Sorry BIWI, we've been a bit up the wall today and training a lovely newbie to boot.

We can remove from Trending and apologies that this hasn't happened with every thread to day, entirely my fault and I will remember in future. It basically involves hitting a button before the delete button which i have forgotten to do a couple of times today in my rush to get it gorn.

Massive apologies, we will ask Tech is there's a way of this happening automatically when a thread is zapped.

BertieBotts · 25/05/2016 20:47

Another way of reducing the impact of this would be to have discussions of the day display by default rather than trending displaying by default.

BIWI · 25/05/2016 20:55

Thanks Rebecca
