could we have a function to 'read op posts only'

TrappedByTiredness · 10/05/2016 22:00

When a thread has hundreds of posts and all replies are much of a muchness, it would be really handy to skin-read only the OP's posts. Would such a function ever be feasible?

OP posts:

You can just highlight the OP's posts in a different colour. If you are only going to skim read do you intend to then comment on the thread?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/05/2016 22:04

They already have this function available on webchat posts so they could do it. I would like to see the functionality extended to all threads too...

Baconyum · 10/05/2016 22:05

I'd like this too

Marzipants · 10/05/2016 22:05

How do you highlight the OP's posts? I'm on mobile site and it's not obvious.

lifesalongsong · 11/05/2016 06:52

The highlighting OP's posts function really should be made more obvious, so many people obviously don't know it exists. I don't know how you set it up on the mobile site but hopefully MNHQ will explain soon

JustineMumsnet · 11/05/2016 09:11

We can certainly look at it - obviously we do highlight OP posts so it's easy to scan and stroll - but will see how much work to add that feature. It's not likely to come too soon though.

Re highlighted OP posts on the mobile site - they should be - but you're right not showing for me atm. Will look into that!

SeaRabbit · 11/05/2016 19:52

If we only had the option to post once we'd got to the end of a thread we'd not have to scroll past all those 'cancel the cheque' type posts from people who hadn't Rtft, nor those oh-so-hilarious ones from people who have... I give up on a number of threads because people post based on the OP, not having read all the way down.

SpongeCakeBigPants · 11/05/2016 20:00

Yes, I would love this function. Would be much easier to catch up on an ongoing thread too rather than wade through 20 pages.

Also could we have a page marker so people don't have to do placemark posts which can quickly fill up threads. Thanks Smile

HooseRice · 11/05/2016 20:03

How do you change OP's posts colour?

KP86 · 11/05/2016 20:06

There is a bookmark (placemark) feature already.

On the app you swipe from the right side and choose bookmark, and on a PC it's at the bottom right of each post (I think it's a spot/dot that you click?)

Imnotaslimjim · 11/05/2016 20:07

Spongecake, you can bookmark within a thread so when you click back on it, you autoscroll to the bookmarked post. On the PC, hover the mouse to below "message poster" and a clickable button comes up

WellErrr · 11/05/2016 20:09

It'll hardly add to discussion, will it?

I think the current highlighting system works just fine.

PerspicaciaTick · 11/05/2016 20:11

Click on the "tools" or "customise" button on your browser. The icon is usually 3 dots or 3 lines in the top right hand corner of your screen (mobile tablet or PC).

You should then have the option to "Find", you can put in the OPs username (and anything at all) and it will let you jump forwards and backwards between all the matches.

And highlighting helps too.

But they both work best when you display the whole thread, not just a few posts at a time.

TrappedByTiredness · 11/05/2016 22:47

WellErrr I know what you're saying about hardly being conducive to the conversation, but like someone pointed out on here, there are some threads like the now famous wedding cheque one, where people are saying the same thing and there isn't anything new to say, but you want to see whether the op updates with any bride reply.

I found myself swiping through hoards of names and occasionally missing what I thought was a highlighted blue op post, only to go back and realise it wasn't one after all. It's quite time consuming for the bigger threads.

Is anyone else fed up of hearing about that cheque thing? I hid the thread but there have been so many threads about it still.Confused
