Idea for youtube videos

whatsonyourplate · 06/05/2016 13:07

Hi, don't know if anyone has ever suggested this, but I have a problem with Mumsnet in that trying to read threads really slows me down if I'm supposed to be doing something else like cook tea or wash up. I've tried using an app that reads text out loud but it doesn't work very well and is in a very robotic voice. So my idea is 'videos' well audio anyway of threads being read out either by voice actors or real mumsnetters. It could just be a couple of the favourite classic threads to start with, then expanded if popular. I imagine different regional accents reading the main contributors post, think Eurotrash style. The visual could be a scrolling view of the thread, a bouncing mumsnet logo or even sponsor's ads.
Anyone else think it could work?

I like the idea, it makes for great background noise while doing other less mindful things and will relieve some of the FOMO (fear of missing out) with some threads (if you include the deleted ones acknowledging them as fiction even better, still bereft at missing out on the Maui fun Sad). However, a podcast makes more sense to me for this specific purpose. It reaches across more than one distributing platform, less draining on battery on portable devices, ability to download, makes more sense to share over social media, etc. etc. (and for your bottom line MNHQ hardcoded advertising through sponsorship in podcasts will allow you to recoup cost even though I'm really sick of hearing about audible and foursqaure in every single podcast ). Maybe 1 or 2 a week available via free subscription with the best/most popular/heartwarming threads of the week, selecting best responses, etc.? Like with classics people can nominate threads somehow?

Videos, however, scream for the inebriated the enthusiastic to act out hilarious scenarios from threads with children's toys preferably narrated by Brian Blessed Grin.

I only charge £4k per minute Grin

I do think a podcast would be fun actually. A bit like the weekly round up in audio format.

I'd listen to it (and help for free!)

whatsonyourplate · 10/05/2016 07:37

Ah, podcast is a good idea, that could work.
I was just thinking YouTube as my kids are obsessed with it and will watch any old bollocks if someone is reading it out, like someone reading out autocorrect texts Confused.

I might make a podcast of a classics

00100001 · 10/05/2016 11:34

I've done the first ten seconds Grin

00100001 · 10/05/2016 19:06

Clearly no one wants to hear my beautiful voice and intro to the first ever MN podcast Grin

whatsonyourplate · 10/05/2016 19:35

Ahhh, I do 00100001 (33 for short?). Have you uploaded it somewhere?

OP posts:
00100001 · 11/05/2016 16:50

lemme do that RIGHT NOW

this is the best 10 second thing ever to happen to MN Grin

It ends abruptly - just so you know.

00100001 · 11/05/2016 16:56

I do definitely reckon a podcast weekly round up/chat series would be fab.

whatsonyourplate · 11/05/2016 17:09

Wow that sounds great binary, have you done this sort of thing before?

OP posts:
00100001 · 11/05/2016 20:29

Only from the tech side (I used to run our school radio/podcast)

botemp · 11/05/2016 23:04

binary, I'm mightily impressed. MNHQ recruit her STAT!

BoreOfWhabylon · 11/05/2016 23:17

Great idea.

When I first read the wonderful, moving thread by EarthMotherImNot about the drug-addicted baby she fostered (now in Classics), I thought it would make a wonderful Afternoon Play for Radio 4. I still do.

For those who haven't read it here it is

whatsonyourplate · 12/05/2016 14:08

Oh my goodness Bore what a tear jerker! Sad

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 12/05/2016 14:12

Yes, isn't it? But I did think at the time what compelling lstening it would be to hear it being read with different voices for OP and the other contributors.

BoreOfWhabylon · 12/05/2016 14:13

Some of the funnier Classics threads would also make great listening, as per your suggestion.
