Tech - Feature requests??

HandyTrinkett · 11/01/2007 13:53

Is there anywhere to request features for the MN talk forums?

Handy stuff would be and RSS feed for threads and the 'my talk' options. Makes it easier to look as though you're working :-)

And what about bugs? clicking on the the "threads I'm on" link shows you all the most recent posts on threads you've been involved with but is printing html tags and html entities rather than rendering them.. ...I'm know it's no biggy but I've just spent all morning chasing through someone elses code that was doing something similar.. :-p

Apologies for being a geek. :'(

Using the "contact us" email address is generally a good idea

SaintGeorge · 11/01/2007 14:50

If you are going to use techie terms like html & rendering though you might want to try [email protected] instead.

Might save some nasty brain explosions at MNHQ.

Cheers SaintGeorge.. ...I'll give that a bash... ...only been here a week.. :-D

Hi HT,

Feel free to drop us a note at [email protected] if there are features you'd like to see.

I'll have a look at the tags in search results business. We should probably just strip them out. Rendering them is a bit dangerous as you can get things like a tag with no closing and make the whole following list go bold. To handle all that properly would mean examining every result and ensuring it's syntactically correct and so on. Could get quite expensive (computationally) quite quickly.

Best wishes,
Tech

I would LOVE RSS! Another vote for that.

Mainly though, I'd like boards on RSS - I keep forgetting to check the find messages thing and then I have too many to look through and it cuts off after 500 (or so?).

If I could subscribe to the sections that interest me (camping for eg) then I know I wouldn't miss any new threads going onto that board.

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeease Tech

HandyTrinkett · 11/01/2007 18:21

I agree that stripping is less expensive.. ..and there are loads of classes around for doing just that.. ...probably even got one lying around here somewhere.. ..hate java though. :-(

if they start asking for avatars and counters may I shoot 'em?

HandyTrinkett · 11/01/2007 22:08

twiglett of course yu can! just being tidy (with the tags and entities) and slacking with rss (so 3 can drop mumsnet into a mail client and make it look like I'm working...)

We'll have a think about the RSS idea for threads getting created in particular topics. I'll talk it over with the powers that be. We've got a lot on at the moment though so I doubt we'll get to it very soon. You never know though.

The tags showing up in search results should have gone away now.
