Pls could you clarify copyright law for me, MNHQ?

In the light of today's DM journalist pinching the story of the bereaved mother and using it, verbatim, complete with the child's name and other identifiable details, pls could you clarify MN's position on copyright?

Is anyone allowed to copy/paste/use posts on MN for their own purposes? I thought you had a copyright disclaimer on the site. If so, what is its purpose?

What actions will you take (if any) re the Daily Fail?

Do you think this will stop people posting anything identifiable? I know we should all think about what we're posting and not make things too identifiable, but a wonderful part of MN is the support people provide to many posters, especially those who post in distress for one reason or another (bereavement, illness, domestic violence, rape and so on).

As CandP has just said on the Journo thread in this topic, the MNHQ warning to not give too much of yourself, does not exactly translate into a warning not to post in case you end up in the Daily fucking Mail, does it?

No. It doesn't. I'm concerned this might put people - who are genuinely in need - off posting.
