Hiding messages

This one has probably passed me by so can I ask what the intent of the new pink 'Hide Message' function is? Is it a permanent feature?

Where is it?

I happened to go onto the laptop and there they were - pink clickable links with a little pink (snoozing?) face beneath every name. Doesn't everyone have them?

In fact, my laptop has just allowed me to take a screenshot if needed. ( The wonders of automatic Win 10 updates, eh? )
