Deleting threads with a delay

Why are threads deleted with a delay? I don't mean after reports, making decisions or doing checks. No, once a decision has been made and HQ commented on a thread "we will be deleting this thread imminently" it often takes a long time and another 100 posts before this happens. Is this so contributors have a chance to read the message?

And whilst I understand TAATs can be a bit mean, TAA troll T can be quite fun..

Yes, we may leave a thread up for a while if we want folks to read the deletion message or we may have had an influx of reports. Sometimes things can take longer than we anticipate.
