That SCENIC advert is a pain in the butt!!
It pops open all the time and drives me nuts. Cant it just sit still?

I agree. It is SO annoying and is REALLY spoiling things for me here. It's even worse than the bear ad. It's the fact it keeps opening up over the page at will. As an ad it;s actually had the opposite effect on me. I would NOT buy one of those cars now.

TurkeyTrotter · 28/12/2006 12:29

too right !
Please could more people agree with me.....

get adaware girls, i don't get any of these ads and i think it's adaware that blocks them

DumDiddyDum · 28/12/2006 14:44

the side banners should be banned or they should pay 400% more than top banners as they are sooooo stupid.

Agree totally. Can put up with the horrid ones at the top as I realise it is valuable fundraising, but that side opening irritating car thingie is enough to put me off ever ever buying a scenic again. It is anti-marketing at it?s finest.
Please please consider moving it out of talk!

beansprout · 28/12/2006 15:40

Agree with the OP. Arghhhh!!!

9BeetrootsDancing · 28/12/2006 16:27

venusinfurs · 28/12/2006 16:37

Sorry to hijack, but does anyone know why my screen is always white now? I hate it, but am not sure if it is a re-design or just my computer....

willow2 · 28/12/2006 17:12

You lot need better software. No problem with ad's here. Also, do you not think that ad's like this raise much needed funds?

PrincessPeaHead · 28/12/2006 17:53

you lot should all download the google toolbar - gives you google right at the top of your browser, very useful. anyway it also has an option "block pop-ups" - you never see another pop up again.

hence I don't know what scenic you are on about

SherlockLGJ · 28/12/2006 17:55

Our Norton antivirus, is a tight as a sharks ass at 40 fathoms, I do not get any advertising.

Lucycat · 28/12/2006 17:58

I agree Sherlock! Norton is a right pita when you are trying to do online surveys though - can't get into anything!

I never get pop-ups!

SaggarClaus · 28/12/2006 18:40

What is this Scenic of which you speak??

I have no ads - no pops - zilch, nada.

It's sooooo peaceful

carriemumsnet · 28/12/2006 21:43

Hi all - sorry this ad is still causing some folks angst. The Renault ad is capped to open once per day per user. This won't work if you've disabled cookies though because then it won't know if you've already opened it. Could that be the problem for those who are seeing it more often than they'd like? Here's why we took this ad in bald numbers. For this type of ad - ie expandable overlays - Mumsnet gets paid (net of all fees to the folks who run it for us) about £9 for every thousand pages it appears on. By comparison the fee for a regular (ie non expandable) ad works out on average at under £2. We did ask on site stuff if people would mind us running this campaign and almost everyone who responded said it would be alright to give it a go. It would be nicer, we agree, not to have any ads like this (in fact it would be nice not to have any at all) but we do have (quite a lot of) costs to meet and so we have to accept some level of commercialism if we are to keep Mumsnet free to use. We agree, though, that it's a fine balancing act and we do turn away a lot of pop-up type stuff plus a number of businesses who we know you'd rather not see on Mumsnet. Do continue to let us know your thoughts, though, it's always helpful when it comes to weighing up these things for the future. Best, MNHQ

MrsSpoon · 28/12/2006 21:45

I'd quite like a Scenic.
