Err, MN Towers, you seem to have made a mistake in this week's Mumsnet News..

..by giving last year's top 5 girls names and claiming that they are this year's (though you haven't given them in the right order for last year either ).

You can get the correct list here , which shows that Olivia is actually the top name this year, followed by Grace, Jessica, Ruby and Emily.

Err, and now that I've previewed this post, why isn't the smiley working?

Gosh, ds2's name has dropped and dropped since 2002. It's a lovely name too. My other two are in the top 10 which is very annoying, but hey ho.

MamaG · 21/12/2006 10:19

DD's name quite low down the list which I am pleased about!! DS's is quite high though which I am NOT so pleased about

at you noticing this

dds name has gone up, ds's down. (actually ds's real name not there, just abbreviation)

AbbyMumsnet · 21/12/2006 10:36

I think you'll find that we never make mistakes and that we were simply giving you a round-up of this week's parenting news The names article came from this week's Daily Mail. We're just reporting the news as it happens, or something like that.

Happy Crimbo.

CantSleepWithSanta · 21/12/2006 10:41

Err, would that be this article , which gives the correct list?

Happy Christmas to you too

(I meant that ironically btw)

What is babydragon's name SD?

OP posts:
HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 21/12/2006 10:50

hmm

well my name isn't there

that makes me feel a little better

so few parents naming their kid Bathsheba nowadays

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 10:53

The Daily Mail website may well have corrected its list.

I'm so glad I didn't go with Ciara/Keira which was next favourite. I deliberately discarded it because of Keira Knightly's rising public presence.

BabyDragon is Seren. I refuse to look at a list of the top 100 names in Wales only!

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 10:54

what I find odd is that it's not the top names which appear as duplicates in DSs classes at school etc (their years aren't shown on that list but the top names don't change that dramatically).

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 21/12/2006 10:55

seren?

lol

its a lovely name, but

don't look at the welsh top 10, i think

HowTheFillyjonkStoleChristmas · 21/12/2006 10:55

(am not lol at your dd name btw, just that...um...there are rather a lot of little serens round here (cardiff)

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 11:00

Hehehe - I know Not so many in Croydon though!

I can't actually find a top 10 for Wales alone anyway. Why lump it in with England??

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 11:01

I won't be taking her to visit the homeland of the little corner of her soul that is Welsh either.

IdrisTheRedNosedDragon · 21/12/2006 11:07

DD has been dropping a little - in the mid 40s now and was in the mid 30s.

DS remains a popular name but I am pretty sure most of his contemporaries will be known by the immediately obvious shortened version, whereas we are weird and give him his full name .

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 21/12/2006 11:09

i can't believe DEMI is in there

HoHoHOliviaMumsnet · 21/12/2006 11:10

Wonder why Olivia is the top name?

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 11:11

Because it's common

Snort!

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 21/12/2006 11:13

SOUPY

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 21/12/2006 11:14

What??

HoHoHOliviaMumsnet · 21/12/2006 11:14

It wasn't when I was born. I was the ONLY Olivia in my school for my whole academic career! I think you'll everone wants to name their little darlings after ME!!
