A request for an icon/emoticon

I've come straight here instead of petitioning on threads - seemed more appropriate to do so (hope that's ok).

Could we have a candle emoticon/icon? There seems so much hurt and loss and MN is famous for its straight talking, hard hitting, brutal yet caring and supportive members. Lighting s candle in RL is something I do frequently and I thought it would bring a tiny comfort to those to see a candle on their screens.

It seems trite and superficial to have a candle emoticon instead of typing a few words to comfort someone in their need.

It's hardly making an effort to click on an emoticon, and removes people from the need to emote.

That's a nice idea. More appropriate than flowers for some posts.

Not everyone can see the emojis though, BeyondCBA's is just a grey square on my phone and I can't do them.

For those not keen, I see your point. That said, not everyone knows what to 'say'/write so maybe a candle is like sending thoughts...

Hi WelshMoth - we will certainly have a think about this, but we would say it's unlikely as most people do want less emoticons and not more. Many thanks for the suggestion.

Hi Penfold - we got this impression from "The great emoji debate" thread, but of course we will consider this emoji if there is enough demand for it.

I thought this idea was that a candle would be added to the official MN smileys rather than the emojis ITKWIM. Like when the star was added recently?

The teenagery emojis we definitely need less or none of.
