This has happened a few times. If I try to change my nickname (I've thought of one I like better than my current one) I go into the 'your registration' bit, fill in email address etc, then change name in relevant box, click save changes and.... it won't let me change. Why? It keeps changing my name back to my current one in the nickname box. When I try to post under new nickname (having clicked 'save changes') it says my user i.d. and password were invalid. Why can't I change my nickname?

because when you post something, you need to change the name in the box below where you write your post.

Silly question, but are you trying to use a name that someone else already has? It tells you so in red at the top of the box if that's what's happening, and you may miss it.

Log out and back in under your new name.

I think it's what wigwamban says too. Someone else already has that name.

Yay! It's done it! I think it was because I was putting an apostrophe in the dont. It took about 6 attempts before it told me though that nicknames can only consist of letters and numbers. Was thinking is that not what I've used? Letters? Then I tried without the apostrophe and hey presto. Thanks for your help. I am a complete technophobe. DH endlessly takes the piss out of me.
