Unable to name change back to previous name

I recently name changed and I have tried to name change back to my previous name.

My account states I am unable to use this (my old username) username and it must contain x amount of characters which it does.

How can I retrieve my old name please.

Oh, that happened to me recently.

I tried again the next day and the "problem" had disappeared. No idea why.

You can totally ignore the 'suggestion' that your username must contain X amount of characters. Just carry on to NC back. It's happened to me - I don't take any notice of it!!!
