Suddenly "active conversations" is only showing 12 threads rather than the usual 30ish. Browsing through ACs is how I find stuff that's interesting, this is a bug I hope rather than a vicious plot to make me stop browsing MN when I have insomnia?

I've got 22 in Active convos- on an iPhone

I've only had 6 or so then I first go on in the last week-ish.

Today it's down to 4. Then after I click around TIO etc., it goes back to a page full.

It's gone up to 22 now but it was definitely 12 when I posted before. Tbh when I first came on I thought I counted 8 but I did a recount before posting to make sure - maybe there was a reset or something?

I've gone from 4 to 12 now. Laptop & Chrome if that makes any difference.

It's up to 100 now - must have been some kind of reset

Thanks for flagging this. We're thinking that the Tech team were maybe having a rummage (for want of a more technical term).

Is everything back to normal now?

Yesterday it started with 8-ish then went to 12-ish then 22.

Today started with 13 and now at 23 (ish)

It's just a bit odd. Doesn't annoy me.

Unlike the drop-down pictures which I still want gone - am unrepentant being like a dog with a bone until we get rid of bloody spaghetti dog et al. I've given up MNing on my Kindle cos they're even more annoying there. And who thought that possible?

Still starting with v few - yesterday was 6 then 4 then 8 then more.

Today still at 6.

I note the lack of response to bloody spaghetti dog and his weird friends.

Hi all - could we just ask which devices, operating software (iOS/Android) and browsers your using (or the app)?

Is this an issue throughout the day, or just early in the morning?

On 9th October it was on an android phone - browsing the website on Chrome.

I haven't seen it since then myself.

Down to 2 this morning. Maybe tomorrow none Or minus threads

Thanks for keeping us updated. We're having another word with our Tech team to see what's going on. In the meantime, it really helps to know which devices you're all using, which version of the site, and which browser.

We're hoping there's some pattern to all this madness.

I'm still laptop, desktop, Windows8 & Chrome.

Had 6 on ActivConvos when I went on MN this morning (am always logged in), then 12, then 20-odd.

This is happening again tonight.

Can I just check - I think normally the active conversations list shows 100 threads (not the 30ish I claimed in my OP) and that threads constantly fall off the bottom of the list as other threads become more recently active.

So just recording in the interests of scientific experiment that the latest post in the last thread in the list at the moment is here at 03:37 - my suspicion is that this will stay the last post in the list over the next few hours as the list grows back to normal size, and that whatever is triggering this happened shortly before 03:37.

Browsing on android phone using Chrome browser.

Yep it grew to 40 posts and now 49 but it's the same thread at the bottom of the list. So it seems the regrowth is solely from other threads getting re-activated as people find them elsewhere and post to them, or creating news ones.

Still happening for me too. Yesterday 4 posts, then later 8, then more.

Today started with 8, then went to 12. Now also more, cba to count.

I wondered if it has anything to do with which topics are hidden because I only have 8 topics in ACs, everything else is hidden.

Happening again tonight and again the earliest accessible post is timed just after 3:30 (this thread @3:35) - so are servers timed to reboot and forget the active conversations list at 3:30 every morning mnhq? I'm not insomniac every night so don't know how often this is.

Not been insomniac this night but just out of interest checked and the most recent message in the last thread in Active Conversations is this one at 3:37 so definitely seeing a pattern here.

Oh the joy of being woken for a wet bed incident. 40ish threads visible so it's not too bad. Most recent post on oldest thread in AC is this on at 03:32 today.

Fish I think you & I are either the only ones this happens to or the only ones who go "heh?"

My AC is never more than 12 when I log in. Often fewer, like 4. And I even re-activated a couple of topics I had hidden (have most hidden tbh) but it's made no difference.

"Unanswered Messages" is also broken - only a single thread is listed (presumably the only thread that has been started since 3:30) active convos didn't have anything that interested me much given how few threads there were so went there but no joy.

DawnMumsnet is this sufficient info about the pattern in the madness?

(Needless to say the 3:30 thing is also evident tonight. Still on an android phone using Chrome browser)
