My classic has gone wrong

I know that in the grand scheme of things this isn't too important to anyone at the moment but I have PAGES! I went into customise to untick the poxing watch the thread option and I've got pages and it's wrong. It still says classic but it"s not proper classic

Howls

A few weeks ago, you'd likely have been warned that going into Customise and clicking Save - on anything - would have been the death knell for your Classic. Since Jeffreygate, there have been so many things happening, though, that......Who Knows. I suspect that you've been moved to (at least) a version of New.

I reckon that Classic's days are numbered in any case - I don't recall a clear and current MNHQ statement on its future - so you may have to get used to it. (New isn't that bad at all when you have it - really. Wink)

I got de registered by MN by mistake and have had to renew and join again. I too loved my classic and now I am on pages too but after a week of not being able to get on the site! I am happy to put up with the dreaded pages. I miss my old name but MN have said that I can prob get that back soon as it was there mistake .

I hate the new stuff

I have - until recently - been staggered that MN were running with four possible board formats. It seemed like complete madness in terms of workload and complexity (I had a vision of Heath Robinson style software behind the scenes) so I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to go with New only (as I suspect they have.) I'm surprised only that it's taken this long.

New is all right to use. It needs a few tweaks but far better surely that the limited resources are devoted to those rather than also to maintaining set ups that only a small proportion of MNetters actually use; and that mainly because they're used to it.

My device ran out of charge so I had to finish there. What I would have wanted to add is that I've been subject to more than one major overhaul of internet board format and in my experience, almost their defining characteristic is that within a month or two - or much less in many cases - users, who had initially reacted as if the sky was falling, could no longer really remember what the previous format had been like to live with and had adapted.

There was consultation of course and tweaks were made to the new methods but that is usually par for the course. People often don't like change and much listening is required.

I know that it will be ok but i feel like a big sulky brat at the moment - thanks all

Well so would I ginslinger! Grin There's been an (almost studious) lack of comment from MNHQ on this topic in the past so people don't know what's happening. That's not so good.

If it's just the Pages problem, set 'Messages per Page' to 1000 and you'll get a whole thread on one 'page'.

You're a genius Limejelly
