JadedAngel "I got the email - sent to an email address I have never used with MN."

Wow! That is a worry.

BritabroadinAsia · 21/08/2015 02:02

Apologies if this has been asked already. At risk of sounding very naive, as my MN name was one of the 3000 on the hacker's original list should I name change? I haven't had a chance to read the threads in their entirety (too busy changing passwords all over the interweb)...I'd prefer not to change but if it's the best thing to do I will, obviously!

Have all other hack-ees name changed?

Advice appreciated.

BoreOfWhabylon · 21/08/2015 02:21

Some have name-changed but lots of us haven't Brita.

Time for a namechange stephanie

grin

his flannel is minging, his spirit is weaker, Nothing left for him but to sip from his Penis Beaker?*

*Poor Jeffrey only had one sheet,

a flannel, folded, rather neat,

he did not wash them very oft,

(the algae on them made them soft)

his buddies over on 8-channel

didn't care about his flannel

all their bedsits smelled the same

a mouldy sink, a sense of shame -

and so his life was turned around

when he in mumsnet's bosom found

a proper throng of goodly wimmin

to make him wash his dirty linen.*

We need to get this recorded and up on youtube, surely? Stephanie and tired you are quite ruddy marvellous :)

For all of you who are panicking that they are on ' the list' there is nothing to day the hacker has all our details and has just published a handful of what he has. I highly doubt that he's going to go through and start exposing people and making posts public they are anyway that's not the point of what they're doing, if it was im pretty sure that would have been a major gloating point for them by now. I don't quite get the 'please delete all my posts' thing.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/08/2015 06:25

Neither do I Arkkorox. And history has shown that mn are very very reluctant to ever do that.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 06:43

Morning. Hope everyone is alright and nothing to report.

Lweji · 21/08/2015 06:44

What is happening with MN highlights that there is no 100% security anywhere.
If a burglar wants to get access to your home, he probably will be able to do it.
The same with an Internet site.
We should be prepared for the possibility that our data online could at any one point be made public.
We can make it more difficult to assign a post to a name: be aware of phishing tactics, have strong passwords, use separate emails for sensitive issues.
But ultimately there is no 100% privacy nor security. Even for the best protected sites

catsrus · 21/08/2015 07:02

All my posts are public, I knew that when I posted. Yes I've done some NC in the past to keep some identifying details apart, but I'm really not worried. There is nowhere else online that I have used my mn user names. All the hacker has access to is my mn data. My current name was in the list, my old password was published alongside it yesterday on the last list. It was a good password, it met the new criteria, my passwords are generally strong but even a strong password is useless against the kind of hole in code that he's found.

Given that top institutions and companies with top IT departments have been hacked like this then it's really unrealistic to expect MN to be 100% secure.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 07:09

Sorry when you say the last list, are there more than two?

catsrus · 21/08/2015 07:22

The one published yesterday at dadsec.lol

To be honest Its no bad thing that it's given MN users a real wake up call re. Online security. I'm shocked how many people are using the same log in details on other sites.

YonicScrewdriver · 21/08/2015 07:36

There's the 3000 list and the partner emails list - think that's all.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 07:37

Thank you for clarifying. Seem only to be the two lists.

Arkkorox · 21/08/2015 07:39

Exactly Catsrus, tbh the anonymity that MN gives posters is better than other forums Ive been on. I've never been on one that gives you the ability to name change.

Simple fact is, if you don't want it on the Internet, don't put it on the Internet.

MrsCampbellBlack · 21/08/2015 07:43

And possibly don't reveal exact details of your income etc etc. I'm always very Hmm when I see threads asking for people to reveal all sorts of information about their finances.

But I had a brush with revealing to much info many years ago and try to be pretty careful about what I put on here now. After all how angry can people get about how much I spend on handbags Wink

DontTellThePrincessBride · 21/08/2015 07:44

Everything seems to have been quiet overnight.

Really hope I didn't jinx it by saying that Blush

Arkkorox · 21/08/2015 07:49

MNHQ could we have an update please?

Ah now it makes sense why my stupid ipad kept logging me out.

Hack my account dude. You couldn't find me if you tried. you couldn't find your own dick if you tried either.

Is this somebody's disgruntled ex husband or something? Whats the deal?

Hulababy · 21/08/2015 08:04

Names and postcodes were not on the dumped lists. Only usernames, passwords and IPP addresses.

However, if your account had your name and postcode on and the hacker had used your details to access your account, then yes - they could have accessed this information. Along with anything you chose to include in your account settings and PMs.

headlesslambrini · 21/08/2015 08:04

Yes an update would be good, especially want to know that no-one got swatted.

StephanieBeacham · 21/08/2015 08:10

He doesn't seem to have had any new tweets or anything since yesterday as far as I can see, and the swatting pictures appear to have vanished.

I hope that despite our careful preparation and hoovering of floors, nobody actually had a visit.

they are promising to dump more information - so watch his space

Nishky · 21/08/2015 08:19

I don't know if anyone vaguely techy can help with this - I changed my Google passwords and looked at the devices-used to access account- as well as mine there was a Linux from the USA. I am not in USA. I can not remove this from device history- I have read up and there is nothing helpful- there is some suggestion it is linked to chrome/android, but seems odd that option to remove it is not there.
Thanks
