Sock puppets

MNHQ blocked a thread saying that there was evidence of "sock puppets" and I would just like to know what that means.

A poster who posted then changed name and posted again to agree and support themselves in the first name usually.

So if someone starts an AIBU and everyone says they are they change name and post in support to look like someone agrees with them.

It's when a poster appears on a thread in two or more guises, making the same argument - so fabricating a 'crowd' to support a particular view but really just banging their own drum.

It means that the same person was posting on a thread using two different usernames.

E.g.:

OP: Blah blah...AIBU?
Everyone else on MN: YABtotallyU
SockPuppet: YANBU OP, and, what's more, I love you. I don't know what everyone else is on about.
