Search function has gone a bit, erm, inclusive!

Last couple of times I've tried searching for an old post I've found a terrible number of hits, and then realised it's because the AS facility has changed - it now does that thing of when you search a particular word, it will give you hundreds of posts with a slightly different word.

So for instance if I look up a word I know I misspelled in the past, I will get all the correct spellings as well, making it very hard to retrieve.

I don't suppose this is a priority but I just wanted to mention how hard it is to use in this regard.

It used to be very specific and strict in terms of spelling but now it just chucks up everything that looks a bit like the word you want.

Does this make sense? Is it supposed to be more useful like this?

Hi Psippsina - we've had a look at things our end and there haven't been any changes to the AS facility recently.

Which browser are you using? Or are you using the app?

Hiya, thanks Becca for responding.

I'm not sure how long it's been like this. Probably months Smile

I'm on the dreaded IE I'm afraid!

I think it's just that it used to be easy to find stuff by misspelling and so on, or a very unique sort of word, but now it will search everything that looks a bit like it, so for example I could look up antagonist and it comes back with thousands of hits from antagonistic, antagonism. That sort of thing.

Sometimes things have different meanings entirely.

No it has been doing this for ages, I noticed when it started and it's really irritating.

We need an exact phrase search function, too. That would solve this issue if you could add it. So that it works in the current way to catch misspellings etc, but if you know that there is a misspelled thread that you want to catch up on, you can search "wierd thungs" (in quotes) and it will only come up with threads with that combination of misspelled words.
