magimedi If they have been vetted I don't know how. Until recent I worked for one of the companies being advertised in a very similar role to the vacancy. It was hideous after I had my second baby - I was effectively bullied out despite being at the top of performance appraisals. I now work for another of the companies being advertised and a few weeks in I'm pleased to say it's very, very family friendly and I am able to work in a senior, very well remunerated role without the expectation of unreasonable sacrifices when it comes to my children.

Hey magimedi - no we aren't actively vetting the jobs but we are actively encouraging employers to post them on site only if consider themselves family friendly employers. The idea is to nugde family-friendliness onto the agenda and to get firms to be out and proud about often quite arcane internal policies. Obviously there may be instances when companies don't live up to the billing in which case we'd expect to hear about it and challenge the employer.

The salaries quoted must be wrong, there are ordinary classroom teaching jobs quoting over 100,000 GBP per year!

I would hope that the adverts at the top are being carefully checked - convincing people to pay £4000 for a course without a recognised qualification or guaranteed job at the end doesn't sit well with me, particularly when all of the course teachings are available pretty much for free elsewhere on line.

Mumsnet Jobs is terrible.

Was very excited by first line of email ad: "Jobs that work with my family commitments"

Very disappointed to see only 17 part-time jobs, and only 14 flexible hours. Out of the entire database.

I imagined they might have worked with employers to develop more family-friendly job options. But it appears not.

Why bother launching yet another run-of-the-mill job site? It's actually worse:

Guardian jobs
749 part-time jobs out of 13,747
= 5.4%

Mumsnet jobs
17 part-time jobs out of 2,764
=0.6%

Also - only 2,764 jobs - not "more than 4,000" as stated in the advertising.

I feel duped. Family friendly jobs are desperately needed but this is just another sad money-spinner job site.

I like the fact that the majority of jobs have salaries clearly stated. Lack of transparency over salaries is a major contribution to the pay gap.

Thanks for the feedback.

We do agree that there aren’t enough part-time and flexible jobs on the site at the moment but there are actually more than are appearing on search - we’ve got a technical issue with regards to tagging things as part-time and flexible which we are working on right now - and hopefully will be fixed soon.

Obviously not all jobs can be part-time or flexible hours and until there’s a sea change in employment practices there will probably always be more full-time jobs on MNJ. However, there’s more to being family friendly than just flexible working and we want to encourage companies to shout about their family friendly policies - it could mean gold plated maternity packages, help with childcare costs, leading the way with training when making the leap back into work after a career break or flexibility around school holidays. Some companies want to actively attract more women into under-represented sectors like technology or engineering and offer good incentives as a result.
The good news is lots of great companies have contacted us since the launch and we’re working on contacting more to offer more choice. We’ll keep you updated about new companies who join up. Rome wasn’t built in a day and all that…

I have a few things to add about the Jobs site. I did tweet these but no one responded.

Firstly, one of your launch partners recently refused to discuss flexible working with me and didn't even give a reason. You should vet your associates more carefully.

Secondly, I searched for jobs in my field and there was not a single one offering part time hours.

Thirdly, I did apply for one job via the site hoping there would be the option to negotiate flexible hours. The recruiter phoned me back very quickly but said there was no chance of flexible hours at all and that he had not placed the ad on your site. This suggests you are just scraping job databases and not doing any checks first to see if the job is family friendly. What's the point of that? I may as well use LinkedIn or Indeed.

This is all really disappointing as I think enabling women up find flexible work is so important.

We are taking jobs from other sites at the moment as we're just getting started and wanted to give as much choice as we could at the beginning - over time we expect external jobs to become less and less part of the mix. Likewise we very much hope that there are more jobs added to your category soon.

Like you we very much want the site to be stuffed with flexi or part-time positions, but it's early days as yet and we're still building our roster of employers. While we do know that flexi and part-time are big factors in family friendliness we also think that there are other things employers can do to make jobs family friendly.

All that said, it does sound as though your experience wasn't great and we're sorry about that. We promise you we will get better - it's a work in progress to make sure that the jobs on the site truly do offer some aspects of family-friendliness and all feedback like this is genuinely useful, so thanks very much for adding yours.
