MNHQ, I would be interested to hear your views on the level of vitriol & personal abuse that has been posted today (08/05/2015)

I am amazed that no one from HQ has intervened on any of the (very many) political threads that have descended into name calling & personal abuse.

Selfishcuntydupe has summed up everything I want to say with this post:

"Yes - the hatred, the bile, the vitriol at people who simply put a cross in a different box. And the baby killing nonsensical hyperbole posted across this site. It's hysterical. Utterly, hysterical.

And no,the Tories here can never win because whatever they post, no matter how sane and objective , it will be used against them to accuse them of being a smug rich, bastard or as evidence that they are heartless.

No one predicted the election outcome because good, decent people stayed silent and quietly voted to avoid the bile , the bullying and the abuse they were seeing heaped upon those who did speak up.

MN admin - I would advise you to look very very closely at what some of your members are saying and how they are behaving or it may bite you on the arse too. This is an amazing website but some of the posts today are shameful."

I know that this site is moderated with a very light hand, but I think you have failed by not intervening today.

Not even an from you.

Oh really, dark and disappointing days! How melodramatic.

It's not the "I'm alright Jack Vote", it isn't inherently selfish. It is coming from the standpoint that economic stability is of benefit to everyone longer term.

There is a difference of opinion on how this is best achieved, not a deliberate shafting of the vulnerable. People struggle, sink and even die under Labour governments too.

Politics goes in cycles. At the moment most people think we need a Conservative government to stabilise the economy and clear the excesses of the previous government. Not everyone who votes is knee-jerk red or blue with no room for manoeuvre, I actually think most people vote with their heads based on what they think is most necessary at the time, based on the information available, taking into account the candidates on offer, and I don't think anyone is stupid for doing that, even if they come to a different conclusion to me.

People are scared and you've got people on the other hand gloating and telling them they are being melodramatic. There's a hell of a lot for some of us to be scared of imo. I don't think we should be having to wait and see what they do, they should have bloody well said what they were going to cut. The majority of us didn't want them but we're bloody stuck with them.

Melodramatic and goady.

Is it really that hard to understand that Labour left the country in a terrible economic mess which would leave us unable to afford ANY kind of social services if unchecked, and that the Tories have improved things.

The economy is fundamental, and given 2015 vs 2010 economy, any other result than a Conservative victory would have been illogical.

Yes, because that's not true.

We are now in more debt with a slower growing economy than we had in 2010!

Today, I am hiding more threads than I'm reading past the first few messages.

It's pretty hostile out there. Going both ways.

I'm a naturalised British citizen. I voted for the first time this general election. So, I am not "steeped in tribal loyalties."

It seems to me that the most aggressive, goady and grandiose comments have come from the Left today. But maybe that's understandable; they had their hopes up and have been let down.

Still it has me taken aback. Where I come from the left tends to be the more sober side of the political spectrum; so it's all taken me by surprise. Just goes to show you have to leave your prejudices behind and keep your eyes and ears open!

It's not let down hope, it's despair. People are scared, and so they should be.

The problem is that ,understandably, most people don't have much knowledge of economic theory. So all they can do is listen to the press and politicians and just regurgitate what fits best with their principles.

It's hard to listen to the same rhetoric again and again.

When you are terrified how you and your child will end up with a tory government its enraging to see gloating posters.
Then to see posters calling us dramatic. When we are already living the reality of the cuts that have already been made. This is our life.
I don't think I can take seeing anymore gloating its so upsetting.

MNHQ, for the first time ever in the wake of this election I've been more impressed with the level of tolerance and open-minded debate at NetMums than here. Please do have a think about whether there are any moderating / ideological blind spots within MN as I think you are letting yourselves down right now

I think though, oswin, the vitriol hasn't solely, or largely been in response to gloating.

One of the busiest threads on Mn today has a title which goes something like "So glad the country has voted for common sense. V pleased the Tories have won".

You see, I consider that to be goady. It implies that any non Tory voters do not have common sense. The whole thread title and stance of the op is gloating and objectionable.

People are gonna object! It's a democracy (as we keep being pointlessly reminded) ... so allow people to vent without trying to crush them by getting their messages deleted for personal attacks.

GraysAnalogy · 08/05/2015 19:57

I was just about to mention that minty.

The first thread I saw on here today was that one. The disappointment and bitterness was raw, and I see that post along with a nice chin chin Wine emoticon.

You mean like the other goady threads started over the past few days, you know, where Tories accuse others of being ... emotional and embarrassing for not seeing the fucking fun and banter in all this mess? Today goady and gloating. No, I still don't see the joke.

Well in the interests of nailing my colours to wall on how I feel, it is as thus

I think that every Mnetter who voted is a cockwomble

And every Mnetter that didn't vote is a cockwomble

And also the mnetters who wanted to vote but couldn't are a cock womble
And finally

That I am in fact, a cock womble

Aaaaaaaah. That feels better Grin

Agree about the vitriol.

The thing to remember is that it all came good. The Tories won. So those frothing at the mouth and being abusive really are the losers in this. Let them froth and curse, it's giving to get them absolutely no where.

I've seen comments stating that labour and voters of the left
are thick, hysterical etc when trying to put their views across and debate. It is going both ways.
As pp have said some posters are frightened of what will happen, myself included

I too have never hidden as many thread as I've hidden today - the nastiness is horrible and utterly uncalled for Sad.

And that's with me positively enjoying a good political debate, but many people on MN today have forgotten their manners IMO.
