MNHQ, I would be interested to hear your views on the level of vitriol & personal abuse that has been posted today (08/05/2015)

I am amazed that no one from HQ has intervened on any of the (very many) political threads that have descended into name calling & personal abuse.

Selfishcuntydupe has summed up everything I want to say with this post:

"Yes - the hatred, the bile, the vitriol at people who simply put a cross in a different box. And the baby killing nonsensical hyperbole posted across this site. It's hysterical. Utterly, hysterical.

And no,the Tories here can never win because whatever they post, no matter how sane and objective , it will be used against them to accuse them of being a smug rich, bastard or as evidence that they are heartless.

No one predicted the election outcome because good, decent people stayed silent and quietly voted to avoid the bile , the bullying and the abuse they were seeing heaped upon those who did speak up.

MN admin - I would advise you to look very very closely at what some of your members are saying and how they are behaving or it may bite you on the arse too. This is an amazing website but some of the posts today are shameful."

I know that this site is moderated with a very light hand, but I think you have failed by not intervening today.

Not even an from you.

I've been on a few threads and haven't seen this.

However, when I said I did phone canvassing for Labour pre election, a couple of posters reacted like I was admitting committing elder abuse Hmm

Ok I'm going in hunt of some of this vitriol.
I've missed it completely so I fail to see how hard it can be to avoid threads where emotions are running high.
If you don't wish to,or are unable to,defend your voting choice I suggest the hide button might stop upset?

Who cares. All the name calling in the world wouldn't have persuaded me to vote Labour. All this starving children under Tories nonsense is what it is. Total and ridiculous nonsense. Which is one of the reasons Red Ed didn't get in. Nobody fell for his idiotic scaremongering.

There have been way too many threads. I have just been hiding them, I am hoping it will get back to normality soon.

Also, no wonder people are scared, the level of scaremongering and hysteria is off the charts.

How about wait and see what policies are actually announced before panicking?

Can you explain for me in a couple of easy to understand sentences LadyStark? I promise not to personally attack you or anyone else.

Oh it looks like this thread will turn into another Tories-are-baby-eaters thread.

What fun.

I can't understand why anyone would vote conservative. I've seen posters explain to Tory voters why they are scared about another 5 years of Tory rule, but not one Tory voter seems to give a shit.

That's why people are bloody angry.

Rebecca - I'd have spent the whole day reporting.

Time was when a thread, about anything, got heated HQ would drop by to remind people of guidelines & PARD.

And I did not (& never have) vote Tory.

We live in a democracy & people are allowed to vote with out intimidation or name calling & I think it makes Mumsnet look pretty immature to have so much jeering & insulting of others going on.

You see I find it like an attack when you describe Ed Milliband as "Red Ed" and his campaign as "idiotic scaremongering" VivienneMary, and if I were more easily ruffled I might give you my further thoughts. Which no doubt some of our more delicate fellow posters would perceive to be the spouting of hatred and bile etc ...

On another thread I have just seen a (I presume) non-Labour voter saying "You lot would vote for a monkey if its arse was red". How charming.

Perspective21 & Northernlurkers posts summed it up perfectly.

It's incredibly difficult to understand, empathise or sympathise with someone who has voted conservative. And if you've voted conservative, you will never ever understand that. It's not nice if someone has called you names, but I understand their anger and frustration. If the most you have to worry about is a stranger on the internet calling you a name you should consider yourself very lucky.

I didn't start this thread to lay blame at either side of the political divide about the vitriol that has been shown here all day.

I started it to say how horrified I was by it, from which ever side it cam from & how surprised I was that there had been no interventions.

You'd think someone had taken a crap on their cornflakes as opposed to just y'know, had a different opinion.

hm yes, except in this instance having a different opinion, has effectively crapped in the cornflakes of millions of people, y'know.

No I agree usual, but nobody has to rant and rave and argue about it on MN either.

Yeah, Elisaveta, I think I remember that thread, though iirc the complaining was more because people HATED being cold called, NOT because you were canvassing for a particular party.

I'm not a Tory voter, but I do know some perfectly nice and decent Tory voters. I also get pissed off with someone I know who binds on ad infinitum if she thinks DH and I aren't being left-wing enough: she is stone-cold certain that she is on the moral high ground and it gets bloody wearing.

I agree with Yoruba - Perspective21 is totally spot on. Really well put.

Nobody has to rant and rave and argue about anything at all on MN, but it's what people do here, isn't it?

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/generalelection/hours-after-the-election-the-dwp-says-is-looking-to-cut-a-disabled-access-to-work-scheme-10237191.html

One small example of why people are so worried about Conservative policies. Many of us with children and adults in our families with disabilities are very worried indeed. Services are earmarked for cutting already, the back door privatisation of the NHS is gathering pace and we are very worried about the concept of society supporting it's vulnerable. I say this as a "hard working" family who do not rely on benefits but I did think we could rely on the concept of a supportive society...my DH could not work any harder to support my DS but even he can't fix the NHS or cuts to local public services...
