How do I change my password if I can't remember my current one?

Am only able to log in at all because one of my machines has me on permalogin. I can't get in via the talk app (and there's no 'forgot password?' button on there - why not?), and I can't change the password on here without entering my current password.

My firefox preferences have a stored password for here, which I'm pretty sure was still valid, but it doesn't work, and apparently isn't long enough to meet the password rules anyway (have they changed - has been a while since I've logged in?).
Help!

If you can access the desktop site on some device and your MN-registered email is still functional, just access the site and go for a change password request - you don't need a known existing password for that if I recall. (They send a password change link to your email.)

If in doubt on something though, or you can't get that to work, try sending MNHQ an email on [email protected] and explain your predicament. They should be able to help you. (And they respond pretty quickly.)

(You can maybe use the mobile site in that way as well - I use that hardly at all, though, so am not familiar with it.)

PS - I have the vaguest of memories that at the time of the internet-wide hacking worry last year, MN forced a password change on all users, including disabling then current passwords at one point. (Someone else will doubtless put me right if I've mis-remembered - but if that's true and you haven't logged in since that point last year, that could be the reason for your stored password not working.)

Oooh that sounds like a pickle! We ask you to enter your password again before you make any changes to your account, but we can see you're in a bit of a bind. Could you mail into [email protected], and we'll see if we get help you?

Ah cozie - I think you're right about the enforced password change. I did change it at the time, but poss from my phone, which would explain why the one stored on my mac is wrong. No idea what I changed it to though, so will email thanks Kate.
