User Unable to receive PMs

iwashappy · 21/04/2015 23:45

I have tried to send a poster a PM and got "Sorry. We can't deliver your PM as this user is currently unable to receive PMs."

I am certain as I can be that the poster is not banned. They did post a while back to say they wouldn't be posting for a while as they were in a bad way and I just wanted to know if the poster was okay. I assumed that not posting for a while meant just that but they would still be registered on the site and would be able to receive PMs even if they didn't log in to actually look at them.

So I would just like to know what the reasons would be for why I got that message. If someone de-registered from the site would you then get that message for example.

Thank you.

I'd suspect that they've de-regged. If you're real worried, why not email MNHQ on [email protected] and see if they can send a message to the poster on your behalf? (Just in case something has gone wrong with the system.)

FenellaFellorick · 22/04/2015 08:44

You can adjust your settings to block people from sending you PMs. Maybe it's that.

cozietoesie · 22/04/2015 09:52

How about an experiment, Fenella? I've temporarily blocked messages so why not try to send me one and see what message you get? (I'd be quite interested to know.)

TheMoa · 22/04/2015 09:58

I would assume they've blocked PMs too, I have.

cozietoesie · 22/04/2015 10:06

Ah - I'll send you one then to test it as Fenella may not be around.

cozietoesie · 22/04/2015 10:09

I received a 'Sorry we can't deliver your message as this user [name] has chosen not to receive PMs'. Looks as if the message is specific then so I'd now (and still) be thinking a de-reg.

Hullo iwas - both the suggestions on this thread sound plausible to us. Obviously we can't give out too much detail about other posters, but do you want to drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll see if we can shed any light?

FenellaFellorick · 22/04/2015 14:17

sorry, I went out.

cozietoesie · 23/04/2015 11:55

I thought as much, Fenella. Smile We worked it out anyway.

I hope the OP doesn't get her hopes up though. If the user doesn't want to be contacted, there's not a lot that MNHQ can do even if they felt it right to try.

iwashappy · 23/04/2015 23:27

Thank you for the suggestions and for taking the time to do that experiment. I will email MNHQ as suggested, thank you Kate too.

Cozie I understand that MNHQ can't breach the privacy of the poster even if they do know anything and that it's probably a bit of a long shot unless the poster re-registers assuming that is the reason PMs can't be received. Thank you.
