How to customize threads to show 1000 posts on one page?

Dumdedumdedum · 16/04/2015 14:11

I'm new to Mumsnet and still trying to figure things out here. When I go to customize, the maximum amount of posts I am allowed to show per page of a thread is 100. I would like to be able to search threads on one page, so would like to have the maximum number of posts available showing. Apparently other people set things to see 1000 posts on a page, I'm wondering why I can't?
Also, is it not possible to edit posts when you realise you've made a mistake just after pressing send?

in customise, i have a drop-down for "messages per page" where you can set up to 1000

you can't edit posts - you can preview though

Dumdedumdedum · 16/04/2015 14:34

Thanks, ChopperGordino, I can't manage to set the drop-down to 1,000, for some reason. Aha - light-bulb moment - I was trying to set it in the wrong place Blush.
OK, must remember to preview, thank you!

As you were, I can't set the drop-down to any more than 100 messages when I customise my stuff. I have asked for "unlimited" in "threads I'm on, number of posts", but it still only shows 100 per page. Confused

can you see this in your "customise" section?

"Threads I'm On — replies to show" - this refers to the number of replies that you will see per thread when you click on "threads i'm on" in the bar below "mumsnet talk" above

"messages per page" is the one that gives me the option of setting it to 1000 (not unlimited - no point as no threads can go longer than 1000)

Dumdedumdedum · 16/04/2015 16:05

ChopperG - I can see your screen shot in my customise section, yes, EXCEPT that the maximum option for the number of messages per page is only 100, not 1000. I cannot find/change the figure to 1000.

MNHQ tell me that it is a policy which applies to everyone who has registered since January. So that scuppers chances of proper, quick, searches in long threads, which was my aim.

That's interesting because there have been some recent threads about the limit being inappropriate without (as far as I recall) any such comment from MNHQ.

I wonder what other and so far unannounced little changes might have been made to new accounts?

IonaMumsnet · 17/04/2015 22:25

Evening, folks. Yes, the OP is correct. Since January 25th this year anyone who registered is only able to view 100 posts at a time we're afraid.

owlonabike · 17/04/2015 22:31

Iona,why is that please?

cozietoesie · 17/04/2015 23:14

Were there any other changes it would be useful for us to know about, Iona?

ChopperGordino · 19/04/2015 07:49

I had no idea this had changed but I do recall in the last few months some sort of riot grumbling when they got rid of 1000 posts to a page and the max you could have was 500 - this was changed overnight across the board. Iirc it was done because servers were overloaded by 1000 post threads . But there was so much upset that I think they had to reinstate it. So perhaps this is their solution to the overloading thing - newer joiners don't get the 1000 posts. Hmm.

Test- posting limit??
