Cannot parse response

Jux · 12/04/2015 12:22

iPad Air on iOS 8.3 using Safari.

When I refresh a page or post, I get "Safari cannot open this page, cannot parse response"

to which I say "Yes you can", hit refresh again and it does it with no problems (and my post will have been posted too). It is easily dealt with, but I thought you'd like to know.

I've been getting this for a while when accessing through links - eg from an email about a watched thread, or sometimes from Threads I'm on. Refresh normally fixes it, as you say.

GoldfishCrackers · 12/04/2015 12:39

Me too. Same OS. Also on iPhone 6+ running 8.2. No such problem on older iPad running an older OS. Only happens on longer threads.

Thanks for letting us know, Jux - we'll flag it to our Tech team and see what they have to say. Smile

I have been getting the same for a while too. Also same OS.

IvyWall · 12/04/2015 16:36

I keep getting this as well. iPad 2, safari, latest operating system

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 12/04/2015 16:41

Yep, happening on iPad mini too. PITA.

Jux · 12/04/2015 16:55

EatShitDerek, I had to switch to Chrome from Firefox on my PC and the laptop a while ago. There do seem to be lots of problems about with various browsers and OSs, whether Apple or not. (This was just generally, nothing to do with MN, Dawn, don't panic! Gin)

Maybe it just needed your encouragement Jux?

I keep getting the same cannot parse response thing on my iPad. And threads sometimes take a long time to load.

IDontDoIroning · 14/04/2015 16:40

Me too and I'm also getting safari encountered a problem with this webpage and has to reload

Jux · 14/04/2015 18:14

I get the reload thing too, but not so often.

Do you also get the very delayed typing thing, and sometimes the cursor is actually in the middle of a letter and you can't tell whether you're deleting the letter before it or after it. That quite amuses me, actually. Or rather my frustration amuses dd who then amuses me.

Ohhhhhhh I keep getting this. I'm on iPad 2 on iso8

CalamitouslyWrong · 15/04/2015 08:25

I get the delayed typing thing. And I find some threads load the top couple of posts (or parts thereof) and then kind of give up. Then I'll either get a 'safari encountered a problem' thing and a reload or it'll eventually just decide to load.

QOD · 15/04/2015 09:31

I followed someone's instructions on another thread and rebooted my ipad 2 three times & went to settings, general, and turned off the something motion. They said it might help
I must admit, I rarely turn my ipad off so should get in the habit of doing so

Jux · 15/04/2015 09:48

QOD, I've been meaning to turn it off properly for a while too. I know it gets 'full' of app data etc so switching it off regularly is recommended. In fact an Apple customer service person told me to do it regularly years ago, even if it's just for a couple of minutes. Probably the same goes for all devices (trying to remember the last time I turned my phone off too Blush).

< sniffs suspiciously for gin around Tech Wizard's keyboard >

I have the reduced motion setting and I reboot my iPad weekly, but I've been getting this "cannot parse" problem recently too.

It is especially likely to happen when I click "show all messages" to put the thread on a single page - this used to be no problem even with a full 1000 messages; now it whinges at a few pages.

I also find reload is slow and when I'm posting, my cursor sometimes goes to another but of thw post, so I'm typing over the previous paragraph.

I accees Mumsnet via Safari on iPad Air 2, IOS 8 and have not updated software since Xmas.
