Yes, this is a TAAT, so do your worst.

'We don't usually delete whole threads but we do so when it is to protect a poster's privacy.'

Aah, poor wee poster got flamed bang to rights on an AIBU so you delete the whole thread? BASED ON WHAT? Shock

Seriously MNHQ? SERIOUSLY? Hmm Which one of you is she related to? I can't physically roll my eyes back in my head far enough to express my cynicism and weariness over this.

What is going on around here these days? Who/what are you scared of, exactly?

Ha!

This thread certainly wins a prize for the greatest number of imaginative, melodramatic and self-serving interpretations of other people's posts.

And that's saying something on MN.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 20:48

The TPS website doesn't mention political canvassing at all though. It talks about sales and marketing, and gives car insurance claims and PPI as examples. Is it too much of a reach for you that many people may actively dislike this sort of call, but still be happy to engage in discussion about the democratic process?

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 21:05

Not sure if this will work

Deleted thread about the Labour Party telephone canvasser
RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 21:06

It's the highlighted bit

I'm rubbish at linking

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 21:08

And I'm not sure it's relevant

It was just mentioned on the other thread..a lot

bruffin · 08/04/2015 21:14

*We are a charity / We are a fundraiser / We lobby for particular causes. Do we have to screen against the TPS when we conduct a telephone campaign?

Yes, you do. There is no exemption from the TPS rules for not-for-profit organisations. The ICO regards the term ‘direct marketing’ as covering a wide range of activities which will apply not just to the offer for sale of goods or services, but also to the promotion of an organisation’s aims and ideals. This would include a charity or political party making an appeal for funds or support and, for example, an organisation that encourages individuals to write to their MP on a particular matter or to attend a public*

from the ICO and I think some above already posted it specifically to you Elsevita

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:15

Fair enough Rufus, I missed that. Register with TPS then if you feel strongly about it - and advise easily distressed relatives to do the same.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:17

No one has sent anything directly to me Bruffin, but if they spelled my name like that it probably explains why it didn't reach me.

Perfectlypurple · 08/04/2015 21:24

Why do you say that EElisaveta

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 21:26

I don't feel strongly about it

I just remembered seeing it on the delayed thread

Don't have any easily upset relatives either Hmm

PaschalFancy · 08/04/2015 21:26

EE, see UAprilFool Tue 07-Apr-15 12:02:17 this very thread...

RufusTheReindeer · 08/04/2015 21:27

Delayed??????

Deleted, stupid autocorrect

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:29

About living in a marginal constituency? Because if you're getting calls every week from political parties it must be an area where it feels worth their while to expend the effort. This is one of the quirks of our democratic system, if Bruffin lived in a safe seat she would probably get very little contact from any party. The few where alliegiances change between elections are the ones where it makes sense to mobilise the vote.

In what way would that be SurelyYoureJokingMrFeynman?

I'm truly hurt. Do you not feel my pain?

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:32

Ah yes - before I joined the discussion so not posted specifically to me Paschal. I did actually RTFT but things have meandered a bit since.

Perfectlypurple · 08/04/2015 21:33

Not sure how you got that from my post. I said they only contact during election time so I am not getting calls from political parties every week. the calls every week are from cold callers from a number of other people, PPI, accidents etc.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:36

Oh. Then I recommend a really good service called TPS - have you heard of it? Wink

Perfectlypurple · 08/04/2015 21:40

I have TPS. I get the calls on my mobile. Some fucker has recently sold my details on as I am constantly getting calls and texts when it used to be just the odd one.

bruffin · 08/04/2015 21:42

Uaprilfool posted on tuesday at 12.02 to you elsevita

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 08/04/2015 21:51

So she did Bruffers - must have missed that. Maybe spelling my name correctly threw me off track. You're both right, TPS does refer to canvassing calls as part of its remit. If Purple is representative, TPS works pretty well for getting rid of the political calls, just the sales ones still an issue.

Between · 08/04/2015 22:01

Cold calling is rude and obnoxious.

WHICH say 'Unwanted phone calls – or cold calls – are one of the UK's most-hated marketing tactics'. They have produced a list of the top ten tips to stop cold calls INFO HERE
