PBPs - how can they keep coming back?

I know you can't say how you "know" but I'm getting increasingly frustrated by the return of banned posters.

Just having a vent I guess Sad

I want to be able to MN without these tossers interfering!

They re-register with a new e-mail address and often a new IP address. It is ridiculously easy to change an IP address.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 23/02/2015 10:16

they change their ip address, get a new email, use proxy servers or something.

I don't know what vpn is but I'm sure I read about it and servers and stuff.

I am not really a techy type Grin

IonaMumsnet · 23/02/2015 20:03

Well... obviously TSSDNCOP, but, erm, yes, it is something like the above. There are a few magic things we can do to keep them out, but if someone is really tenacious and has a lot of time on their hands, they can slip through the net. We can usually spot them again fairly easily so do always report it if you have concerns and we can check them out quickly.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 23/02/2015 20:27

I hope nobody minds me hijacking the thread, but since we're on the subject of IP addresses and MHHQ is here I thought I'd ask here instead of starting a new thread.

If someone was banned for trolling, what would the procedure be if an another user who had been a member for a while and had a consistent posting history occasionally posted from the same IP address as the banned user? Would you just instantly ban them too or would you get in touch with them first?

I know that's an odd question but I do have a reason for asking.

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 23/02/2015 20:28

MHHQ?! That was meant to be MNHQ.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 24/02/2015 12:30

really though, just how much of a friendless, unloved sad bastard would a person have to be to actually go through all that just so they could post bollocks on a parenting website.

It's pathetic. Truly, genuinely pathetic. Sitting there in their sad little room with literally nothing better to do than to do some weird tech stuff to get unbanned from a parenting forum so they can come back and post how they won't be invited to a wedding unless they bake a cake for 100 people and do a jig or something.

Poor, poor little sadsack.

CheeseandGherkins · 24/02/2015 12:35

It actually doesn't involve "tech" work at all. Getting a new ip is simple and using a proxy site is even easier. I've never been banned fyi, just know how simple stuff like that is.

Biscetti · 24/02/2015 12:38

It's easy if they can be bothered. I know at least 8 PBPs who are still merrily posting. They're obviously a bit fucking dense if they think people can't work them out.

HowCanIMissYouIfYouWontGoAway · 24/02/2015 13:01

still though, even if it's not complicated, it's ruddy tragic to jump through even tiny hoops to get round a banning so you can carry on being a tosser on a parenting forum.

Do report anything you think we ought to see, won't you?

This sounds rather unusual - do you want to email us with specifics? Or report your post and we can see if we can answer?
Thanks

ThereIsACarInTheKitchen · 24/02/2015 20:49

Olivia, I know it's an odd question. I was going to explain why I asked it here but think I will just e-mail instead, thanks.

I know how they actually do it and why MNHQ don't have particular protocols in place as it affects Other Stuff (closet techy) but I really just wanted a moan. Sorry Sad

OP posts:
TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 24/02/2015 22:22

You're always welcome to moan, Luis

LuisSuarezTeeth · 24/02/2015 22:28

Cheers Olivia Smile

I reckon there must be loads of PBP posting on here all the time.

There's always loads of dodgy threads now.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 25/02/2015 08:50

Exactly usual. How do you keep getting back here? Wink
