Anyone got an email message from Halifax? Virus Alert?

I'm a bit suspicious because I don't have a Halifax account and over the past couple of days I've had 2 emails from Halifax Bank Plc, one that was headed urgent and another today headed 'online account suspension'. I haven't opened either and just wondered if anyone else has had these or if there were any virus alerts out?

I am with the halifax, and not recieved any emails, contact halifax and ask them.

Yes - never answer an e mail that says it is from your or any other bank! It's a scam, trying to get thier hands on your bank acct details rather than virus, I think. But delete anyway.

Cappuccino · 24/10/2006 12:38

that sounds like utter cobblers

I bank online and I've never had anything like that

I'd definitely ring them

Cappuccino · 24/10/2006 12:39

ooh I have had something like that, from someone claiming to be 'Barclays'

never had an account with Barclays

AlfredAitchcock · 24/10/2006 12:39

i did once get an email from my halifax account saying to 'ignore any emails which purport to be from the halifax' as they were aware of a scam which was going on.
i'd forward it to the halifax website, if you can be bothered, looks like another scam to me.

Debbiethemum · 24/10/2006 12:40

Yes I've had it to. It is a scam - just trying to get hold of your account details.
I forwarded mine on to Halifax, so they are aware of it. then deleted the email

aDadOnMumsnet · 24/10/2006 12:40

straight into your trash! I get them from Halifax, and Barclays, as well as ones from ebay. All are fakes. Ignore and delete!

Rhubarb · 24/10/2006 12:48

Thanks, I've reported it to an internet fraud company and to Halifax.

Rhubarb · 24/10/2006 12:58

If anyone else gets such a scam email from a bank send it to the Metropolitan Police via [email protected]. and for scam ebay emails send them here [email protected] or here [email protected].

Definitely get rid. I get them about 4 times a week from Halifax, Bank of Scotland, Nationwide - I don't bank with either of them. I get hoax ones from Paypal and ebay too. Some of them look very convincing
