Calling all movie fans

SandyMumsnet · 08/01/2015 11:51

We've been looking at the boards of late and can see that there is a lot of Movie Talk scattered about the place. Everyone loves a good new movie or a snuggly old classic, so we thought we'd bring them all together in a new topic called Movies.

Are you passionate about movies? Can a film reduce you to tears, make you howl with laughter, scream with panic or shudder with goose bumps? Do some fill you with rage?

We'd really like to hear all the gory details, so get yourself over to Movies and start a thread, pop in a trailer with a link for good measure and we'll be right by your side with the pick'n mix.

We've made Movies more visible in Talk with its own category and plan to make things a bit more interesting by cranking all things film up a notch or two. We'll be introducing some fun stuff and plan to make Movies the best place for movie fans to hang out.

But we want to hear what you think first...

Got any thoughts and suggestions? Jump on this thread and let us know, we're all ears.

And remember this includes each and every one of you, buffs and beginners alike.

We look forward to your feedback
MNHQ

Yes, most definitely to the new topic. Please call it film though.

Bambambini · 21/01/2015 20:58

Am I the only one that's happy to say movie? Think I stopped saying film as no one could understand me as it comes out filiim. But good, love talking fillims.

fuzzpig · 21/01/2015 21:56

I want an anime chat thread :o
Nobody replied to it when I started one

singaporefling · 21/01/2015 23:21

FILMS - great idea!!

ArsenicFaceCream · 22/01/2015 02:09

Thank you for the lovely FILMS topic Smile Flowers

Where's the John-Lewis-Christmas-Ad-Sleuthing/Midget-Car-Racing thread? That should be moved over there, I think.

LikeABadSethRogenMovie · 22/01/2015 02:32

If there was ever a phrase that makes my toes curl, it's "I'm going to the pictures". It's not 1958!

ArsenicFaceCream · 22/01/2015 02:37

What about 'the flicks'? Smile

ladymalfoy · 22/01/2015 07:46

Hey! Crusader! Have you any nuts?

CrispyFern · 22/01/2015 08:08

Film.
Always film. Unless it's a drive in movie, but we won't be doing that on mumsnet.

lionheart · 22/01/2015 08:10

Great idea. The topic does need a red carpet, tiered seating and all that jazz.

lionheart · 22/01/2015 08:12

There will be a row about whether snacks and drinks are allowed. Wink

Sprinkfest · 22/01/2015 09:32

Hmm. In America, both are used.

Usually movies to describe most offerings and films to describe foreign/independents.

Titanic was a movie, Brown Bunny was pretentious shite a film.

Given that movie describes the product and film describes the medium (and can also be used in reference to still pictures), I'm curious to see MNHQ ruling on this.

In the meantime I look forward to changes in the industry. Anyone want to go see a digital...?

Thanks for the heads up, we'll take a look. Flowers

Can you add a spoiler tag? I like to hear how good a film is without a plot spoiler.

CaptainJamesTKirk · 22/01/2015 16:24

Oh yes actually what about spoilers? I don't want to venture there to find the endings to all these films I'm yet to see due to having a 4 year old.

Hassled · 22/01/2015 19:43

Can you sweep my very very important Jurassic Park vs Independence Day thread into Movies please? Because one day someone might want to know which is the better film, and this thread will help them. Possibly. It's www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/2267442-Whats-the-better-film-Jurassic-Park-or-Independence-Day.

Great idea for a new topic - will be a really good resource.

download · 22/01/2015 20:20

there has always been a movie topic. confused

download · 22/01/2015 21:40

anyone?? movies has been around years and years, what's different????

CaptainJamesTKirk · 23/01/2015 07:32

Has it? How strange, I've never noticed it before? Are there now two?

CaptainJamesTKirk · 23/01/2015 07:35

Actually thinking about it shouldn't it be in fun&games with telly addicts and radio addicts, instead of separate? Maybe MN separated it rather than created it?

Could be a way to generate income, interest and sponsorship for films, in the way books probably does?

ladymalfoy · 23/01/2015 14:38

And it will alway be Jurassic Park. Dinos are real and still alive and that film proves it.

Armpitt · 23/01/2015 16:26

hey Sandy - will there be night vision goggles involved?
Grin

nightswift · 24/01/2015 06:34

I'm happy with movie - sat night is Movie night in my house - though I agree with others when i am talking about myself i would watch a film - maybe a generational thing!

Can i request a clear spoiler guidelines are agree though ( maybe appear when you post a thread)

Armpitt · 24/01/2015 07:06

I never say "movie". It's a film

Armpitt · 24/01/2015 07:07

Not pictures. That's a bit flat cap and whippet. Or news reels
