Would we be able to have a spiritual life board??

There seems to be quite a few mums here who like the alternative way of looking at life. several of us chat on threads about all different mediums and angles of spirituality. So far we have 7 or so threads going but it would be great to have different subject headings. It will hopefully attract more people as its not always easy to find like minded mums with this interest. Would love to know what you think. We also wnat to dispel the theory that you have to be a hippy to be spiritually inclined.

No you see P thats is the differnce between us - it ould never occur to me to look upthe definition of a conversation! and I wouldnt see the point.

I just am a fan of Melsys!

papillon · 21/04/2004 11:36

I agree with some of what you Coddy and others have said =..
lots of things about spiritualtiy etc comes across right zanny - but we are not trying to be fruitcakes.

oliveoil · 21/04/2004 11:39

Sorry but I smirk when I read some of the posts on here, bit too hippy dippy for me but each to their own spose.

Codswallop · 21/04/2004 11:39

smirk or a dragon- esque snork?

papillon · 21/04/2004 11:40

I mean the conversation about spirituality - not just about having conversation.
I am a fan of Melsy`s too.. we are not a mind altering sect - trying to steal her away
... in fact Melsy was the one who started all this - YAH Melsy.

I have read a book of Theodore Zeldin so was aware of his quote and like his work - he is not a spiritual writer btw

Belly roll sometimes

hercules · 21/04/2004 11:41

I have to confess to being a lurker on these threads although i dont have any interest in it at all really.
just find such things fascinating cos cant understand why other people are into them in such a way.
I def think they should have their won forum though.

Codswallop · 21/04/2004 11:41

you see I think you all dwell on stuff to much just get on with your lives!

oliveoil · 21/04/2004 11:43

Bit inward looking and overanalysing (sp). But I may just be thick

Kayleigh · 21/04/2004 11:45

I think a forum for this is a good thing. I don't think it will cause any more/less arguments than on any other forum. And separating it means those that don't want to go there don't have to.

papillon · 21/04/2004 11:47

some people love to dwell
and still get on with their lives.

In fact I find it quite stimulating

I suppose it is easy to think that because we explore these ideas that we are all depressed. Not the case for me.

glitterfairy · 21/04/2004 11:49

Have found the internet in my hotel and must say have enjoyed reading this thread since yesterday. I think it is a good idea and whilst stuff labelled hippy does make many people wince it can also add a fantastic amount to peoples lives and help them. How many people do I see who say they are not in the least spiritual cross themselves or say a prayer when there is turbulence on a plane? Funny how we all become very spiritual when the chips are down? I think walking up a mountain is spiritual in a kind of breathy, panty way and moments when your kids say mind blowing things are also spiritual it does not have to be hippy stuff at all.Ok have just read this and whilst long I do sound abit new age but I dont care!

juniper68 · 21/04/2004 11:52

morning all,
you're right kayleigh, there are boards I wouldn't even lurk on as I have no interest in them.
I do have a life - a very full one, but have found some great friends here. The thing is we only know each other so much, no one knows the things i've been through lately or anyone else for that matter. If we've found like minded people to talk to and study with then what's the problem? I don't understand why there's any animosity? I have friends who have other friends with different interests in common and i couldn't care a hoot! Likewise I have some aethiest mates who don;t come to church with me but don't berate me for it.

papillon · 21/04/2004 11:52

ditto

juniper68 · 21/04/2004 11:53

glitterfairy · 21/04/2004 12:02

Am so addicted forgot to pack all sorts of essential items including hairbrush as was on mn chatting away. Am now late for meeting so had better go. I will check in later. Am going to talk about communication to a group for two hours so may touch on spirituality as well!

Angeliz · 21/04/2004 12:02

I'd vote again for YES!

I was actually thinking about this last night and mumsnet has ALL KINDS of stuff not relating directly to parenting so i don't see why this should be any different!

I also don't think it would cause more arguments.
I think they flare up on any topic really!

Let the good vibes flow

Caribbeanqueen · 21/04/2004 12:19

What's the problem with setting up a new board or thread on this issue. Just because it's slightly contentious doesn't mean we can't talk about it. People already seem to pick and choose their chat threads, so this should be no different.

I would be interested in it, together with other things related to alternative health/medicine etc.

Just because it's not to do with parenting that shouldn't put us off. We are supposed to be more than parents aren't we?

I say go for it.

DD just woke up, so must go, but will be checking back later on progress.

Caribbeanqueen · 21/04/2004 12:25

Sorry, I'm a new member, hope I didn't sound too stroppy!!

melsy · 21/04/2004 12:40

cariibeanqueen I think of that song by .... cant remember!!!. Anyhwooo thank you coddy for you vote!!! I have had personal issues and many of them you know of ; PND/ CPN visits strapped into ambulances the lot etc. Im not depressed because I am into this way of looking at things I am looking at them because I need to be uplifted and have had to change my life otherwise I would have ended up having a nervous breakdown. That is not me being sarcastic BTW It really relly lifts me and sometimes creates wonderful energy. I know some people laugh at it and I am fully aware of others who dont live like this at all. So be it, thats life and their way of life. Spirituality comes in many forms , it can be that sudden flash of love you feel for your children, chance meetings, looking out at the garden on a sunny day and feeling the energy from it. I am GETTING ON with my life and these moemnts are the special ones , beleiving in this STUFF makes those moments linger a bit longer and allow me to be creative and inspired.
