Blimey - Facebook has removed our picture of a baby being breastfed...

Many of you will remember the recent kerfuffle involving a breastfeeding mother being told by Claridge's staff to cover herself (and her baby) up with a napkin. It generated lots of discussion on MN, and we duly posted a link to the thread on our Facebook page, accompanied by this image of a baby being breastfed.

We were more than a bit taken aback to discover this morning that the post has been removed - apparently for failing to follow Facebook's community standards. Find out more over here - and if you think this is as bonkers as we do, do feel free to share!

Btw, that is another gorgeous picture upthread, of the toddler being breastfed.

Jolly good. Hopefully the team of teenage boys or whoever it is who does the moderating on FB get a bit of training on their own guidelines.

Error? Hmm... I smell the fear of an online fight to the death! Boobs versus face. The boobs are victorious. Well done mumsnetters, go about your business Xmas Grin

Didn't Mr facebook recently get married? If they have dc, and she chooses to bf, I expect he won't be impressed if him and his dw are asked to move along. Or you know, post a pic of fb if they like.

And, fwiw, my status pic on FB for a good long time ( year or so) was me bf my dd, and no one kicked up a stink. Maybe i wasn't ostentasious enough:)

TheFirstSolo · 18/12/2014 22:31

Aww! thanks KatherinaMinola :) she wasn't really a toddler though; she was 4.3 years old! it only went on for another 7 months :(

As a previous poster also experienced: not so long ago I reported a post on facebook for inciting racial hatred (not directly in the original post, but it was present in the comments beneath it). I was surprised to get an email back from facebook saying they didn't deem anything wrong with the post and would not be removing it. I'm very, very angry to hear they've removed a picture and post about breastfeeding and frankly feel like boycotting.

atticusfinchatemybaby · 19/12/2014 16:36

Whenever i see offensive pictures of naked / scantily clad women on adverts in the street / magazines etc i wish i had a sticker of a baby i could stick on her boob or coming out of her legs akimbo pose. Would highlight the utter ludicrousnes of the double standards in the way women are represented in the media. Can you imagine the horror if the tabloids replaced their daily upskirt shots with pictures of childbirth? good god, the country would implode. Men wouldn't be able to venture out of their homes for fear of what they might see. A bit like life is for women now, in fact.

1ChelseaMa · 20/12/2014 10:31

it's men that sexualise boobs. not women

AllMimsyWereTheBorogoves · 20/12/2014 10:39

Plenty of women accept it, though. See post above from poster whose female friend didn't want to see pictures of women breastfeeding.

nickeljrismybabesitter · 21/12/2014 00:16

atticus I love that idea!

DisneyDivaWoo · 21/12/2014 02:46

I saw an image of two men being hung in Pakistan... and they removed a breastfeeding photo..... fb is warped Shock

TheFourthLobster · 22/12/2014 14:56

did they remove it when you reported it?
I reported a post somebody had made on a friend's page which was saying that Hitler would pleased in response to something racist. It wasn't removed as "it didn't violate their community standards"

Facebook has standards? Who knew?!

DisneyDivaWoo · 22/12/2014 16:11

It's still there. Fb has no standards
