Blimey - Facebook has removed our picture of a baby being breastfed...

Many of you will remember the recent kerfuffle involving a breastfeeding mother being told by Claridge's staff to cover herself (and her baby) up with a napkin. It generated lots of discussion on MN, and we duly posted a link to the thread on our Facebook page, accompanied by this image of a baby being breastfed.

We were more than a bit taken aback to discover this morning that the post has been removed - apparently for failing to follow Facebook's community standards. Find out more over here - and if you think this is as bonkers as we do, do feel free to share!

xalyssx a lady breastfeeding a goat?!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/12/2014 16:02

Can you get it somehow linked to your viral meringues?

TheFourthLobster · 17/12/2014 16:20

It's pathetic that FB ban such pictures. I reported a comment the other as a friend said something pleasant about Germany (she is German) and some idiot responded with a picture of Hitler and the comment "Hitler would like that"
FB allows that even though it upset her and others.

YABU to be on FB.

KnackeredMerrily · 17/12/2014 16:25

And Facebook strongly defended the right to post videos of beheadings Confused

chockbic · 17/12/2014 16:26

Did they specify why it's been removed?

KatherinaMinola · 17/12/2014 16:26

What a gorgeous picture. They are nuts - they allow spam posts for dating sites that do (IMO) have inappropriate pictures.

KatherinaMinola · 17/12/2014 16:26

God yes - I'd forgotten about the videos of beheadings Shock

eurochick · 17/12/2014 16:27

Absolutely ridiculous. I'm glad one national newspaper has picked it up already. Maybe we can shame FB into sense....

JaneAHersey · 17/12/2014 16:28

FB need to re-think removing this image. They are reinforcing the fact that breasts are only sexual objects. I have seen more explicit sexualised images than the one above posted on FB.

OliviaRinHerts · 17/12/2014 16:38

Unbelievable. I am sure most people won't be happy until breastfeeding is banned.

Makes me more determined to be as ostentatious as possible about breastfeeding in public - and even more so for longer!

ErrolTheDragon · 17/12/2014 16:43

Just to cheer you up - this cafe notice made it onto the News Quiz. Grin

OliviaRinHerts · 17/12/2014 16:44

That should have read 'some' people not 'most'. I would hope there are some decent people who treasure and support breastfeeding and our right to do so

WorraLiberty · 17/12/2014 16:52

This is ridiculous ffs

Talk about taking a step backwards

Failbook at its finest

ineedsomeinspiration · 17/12/2014 17:03

Shared on fb, some of the bloody horrible things that are allowed on there!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 17/12/2014 17:04

Another reason to avoid FB.

LetticeKnollys · 17/12/2014 17:31

I'm surprised they would be silly enough to be censoring breastfeeding pictures now, with all of the publicity of the recent Claridges incident and the embarrassment caused to them over the similar removal of a mum's bfing picture not that long ago.

If Facebook removed it, that means that someone must have reported it! What kind of person finds this picture offensive Shock

Recently one of my Facebook friends posted a nude picture of herself (she's a photographer) but very shadowed so you couldn't possibly see anything sexual - certainly less than we see in many advertisements plastered everywhere. It was reported by several people and removed. People seem to find "real" female bodies offensive.

Icimoi · 17/12/2014 18:06

I've shared it with a pointed comment that Facebook will presumably see if any idiot complains.

EveryNight · 17/12/2014 18:28

I reported a link to a porno video clip last week and was told it does not break their guidelines.

ChristmasDawndonnaagain · 17/12/2014 18:43

I report Britain First on a daily basis. So far facebook have removed nothing. Fucking ridiculous then, to remove this.
