When MNHQ a come on a contentious, reported thread and post an "fri, we'll be deleting this shortly" type phrase

  1. why post? Why not just delete it and put your comment in the deletion msg

  2. why does it take ages for the thread to actually be deleted? Is there some sort of arduous, techy process that I'm missing?

Surely posting that you'll be deleting and then stringing out the actual deletion just fuels the fire because everyone then wants to get their two penneth in before the shut down?

@Blu

Perhaps Tech has nipped down to the vending machine.

:runs for safety:

Or was eating chicken stir fry.

Hello

We like to give a warning because we think it makes things a bit less jackboot-ish, and gives posters a chance to let us know if they think we've made the wrong decision. We don't always do it though; if a thread is incredibly beyond the pale we'll usually just zap it. It's a bit suck-it-and-see.

Oh and general discussion about issues raised by the case of Charlotte Bevan and her baby is OK, but we will delete things that seem to stray too far into speculation. Tis a site for parents after all and we're mindful (and sure most posters are too) that there is a grieving family coping with this awful situation.
