Why WASN'T this thread deleted?

This thread was posted in feminism and was obviously reported very quickly but has been allowed to stand. Why? It just makes a mockery of We Believe You and is quite offensive.

There are loads of posters calling OP a troll and that would normally be enough to shut down a thread, even if the content wasn't so awful.

Fairenuff - I agree. I've reported it twice (or maybe three times!) once before the message was put up last night and again this morning.

CatKisser · 16/11/2014 09:20

Yes I was wondering the exact same thing!

Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:21

HQ posted on page 1 so they obviously knew about it right from the off.

OP posts:
FrontForward · 16/11/2014 09:26

It's horrendous on so many levels

CatKisser · 16/11/2014 09:26

I know! And now it's 12 pages of rancid drivel.

Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:28

I wonder how many people have reported it now? I didn't because it was obvious that others had.

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 16/11/2014 09:29

I got an "apologies for the mass mail" response last night - so I assume loads of people had reported it?

HQ said they would be keeping a close eye on it and would ban if needed.

DuelingFanjo · 16/11/2014 09:30

I reported it three times

FrontForward · 16/11/2014 09:31

I have reported it. I'm generally a fan of MNHQ and think they do a great job but it sticks in my throat when they say report report report and then ignore threads like that one.

EmbarrassedPossessed · 16/11/2014 09:31

I reported it 3 times as well, but haven't got an email response about it. I'm amazed it is still up.

FrontForward · 16/11/2014 09:37

The whole subject of reporting and a lack of response has been raised fairly recently

RowanMumsnet (MNHQ) Wed 29-Oct-14 14:30:31
(Another posters comment is quoted: MNHQ simply don't appear to have the number of bodies to cope with the number of reports or the right HQers in at peak times for useage )
The response: That's not how we see it tbh (though we wouldn't would we grin). Although we're busy, we very rarely overwhelmed - usually only when something ridiculous (like Heartbleed) happens. Most days/evenings we clear almost everything that's been reported to us, and the Night Watch deal with egregious trolling and spamming overnight.

Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:41

Where were Night Watch last night then, was there something else going on that took precedence?

OP posts:
FrontForward · 16/11/2014 09:41

So you have a 24yr old male accused of rape (describing a Ched Evans scenario of rape) and telling posters

I know what a douche bag is, sounds like you haven't douched for a long time, you must have a lot of sand in your vagina to make you this angry

That's aside of the fact the whole thread is goady

FrontForward · 16/11/2014 09:43

Bet this thread gets deleted faster

Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:43

And posters trying to lure HQ onto the thread by posting

Troll
Troll
Troll

Still nothing...

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:44

Ha FF I must admit I am partial to a bit of irony Grin

OP posts:
Fairenuff · 16/11/2014 09:48

Ah, there it is, finally a message from HQ on that thread...

Morning folks. We're going to be deleting this thread in a moment. Regardless of whether or not the OP was genuine, it seems to have become very unpleasant and isn't adding anything to the debate, to the site or to the world in general.

Bakeoffcakes · 16/11/2014 09:48

MNHQ have just posted to say they are deleting it.

It should have gone last night though. Why didn't it I wonder?

FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 16/11/2014 09:48

Iona just posted to say it's being deleted

I don't think that's a very helpful comment, tbh. Sorry Iona.

OP posts:
FrauHelgaMissMarpleandaChuckle · 16/11/2014 09:53

One of the things I reported it for this morning was that there was a post on the thread that said the poster had recognised the situation as applying to someone they knew, who was from where the OP said he was from, and they were printing the thread out to take it to the person they knew and were going to try to find out who the OP was.

That worried me - quite apart from the rest of the thread - and I reported for that reason early this morning.

AuntieStella · 16/11/2014 09:54

From what I remember of the thread (I saw it in its first few posts, then again this morning), it was a fairly obvious example of 'do not feed trolls'

If the poster was for real, then the actual question was answered on page 1. If not, then any reply is just feeding it, and demonstrating that MN is a place which offers food and attention to such posters.

I know that 'don't feed the trolls' has been debated before here, and IIRC the consensus was that it was unreasonable to expect that approach to become the norm (despite examples of effectiveness) as you can't expect people to hold back from posting. Is that still how people see it?
