i don't know at what point threads are archived though

I think after so long messages are archived so they don't actually appear on the message board, but in this one place.

I suppose it's a bit like "pruning" where they get rid of any threads that haven't got useful information (sorry maybe wrong way to word that) such as the bars opened each day. This free's up webspace as I'm presuming MN hasn't got an unlimited amount

Yes, but after how long? And for how long? And if I want to search for something but can't remember when the conversation was, do I have to do two separate searches?

it looks to be like all messages before 1st jan 2004 have been archived. If i do a search on current messages where the author is Kayleigh only messages after jan 1st come up. All my other stuff is in archived messages.

Hi prettycandles,
At the moment yes you do have to do two separate searches. We are going to re-integrate them soon. For now, anything over three months old is in the archived section - apart from "Chat" threads (ie threads in the chat topic) which we delete after 20 days.
