Emergency Help

Re, a thread at the moment, would it be possible for someone in a desperate state to give Mumsnet headquarters a paypal account number so that an amount of cash could be collected up to a reasonable limit?

All of us who have known the down the back of the sofa, through the pockets hunt know the value of a small amount.

Obviously there is a chance of this being exploited but I am not talking about hundreds (I have seen hundreds collected on here very quickly for people truly in need), just eg £20- £30. That could be paid back to a central account if the OP wanted to do.

But there's one of those types of thread pretty much every week!!

NickNacks · 18/09/2014 17:59

Terrible idea!

I wasn't asking for me!
Do those threads really come so often?

Is it that much different from the Christmas appeal?

Yes, it's cold hard cash!

Bad idea, you'll end up with all sorts and run the risk of HQ being investigated for money laundering (one worst case scenario of course).

There are RL places people can get emergency help from, the Internet isn't one of them.

Hi there
Thanks so much for flagging this.
We do advise all our members to be aware that not everyone on t'internet is who they say they are, and that, although we're awed daily by the astonishing support our members give each other through life's trickier twists and turns, we'd always caution anyone never to give more of themselves to another poster, emotionally or financially, than they can afford to spare.
