Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 12:13

We've also put together answers to your mobile related FAQs over here and we'll be added to that as new things get introduced.

Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 14:11

Hello Lweji, we're trying to get hold of a similar device to test your issue on. Thank you for your update Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 14:13

@LineRunner

Thank you for getting rid of the ad that was stuck to the top if the page.

The ads are still annoying though because they are not static. The rapidly scrolling text is really irritating.

You're welcome of course, we'll be testing this approach for the next little while so if you do have other feedback please mosey on over here and let us know.

Unfortunately we can't blanket prevent moving adverts so we're hoping be able to scroll past them will at least limit their impact.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:03

@nickelbabe

the first thing on that page you li ked to about the mobole site is bollocks. i was logged in and went from talk to the homepage and back to talk, and i got that message.

Hello nickelbabe, That shouldn't happen quite like that, can you let us know if you were using your back button or the navigation links?

Thanks.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:06

@smilingthroughgrittedteeth

Its terrible I complained about the insensitivity of the stupid adverts being inbetween posts but its just hit a new low for me, reading a thread about the poor lady who lost her baby and the first ad in amongst the supportive condolences is for paediatric first aid courses, it cant be just me that finds it unacceptable.

if you cant control the content of the ads then they should be easy to avoid at the top and bottom not right there in the middle!

Hello smilingthroughgrittedteeth We saw your post earlier and have been working since to remove the ads we can't control from sensitive topics asap. That should be released tomorrow. We're sorry you've been upset by an advert tonight.

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:09

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreen

Errrmmm what on earth has happened to the icon things for 'active' 'watching' etc... See photo. I'm on an iPhone 5 operating on iOS 7.1.2.

Another poster encountered that previously but we're not quite sure what caused that and are finding it hard to replicate. Do you have any custom keyboards added to your iPhone? Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:11

@GiveMeCheesecake

I have it set to hide the shortcut bar, but it keeps coming up everytime I log in and I have to click to hide it again. I haven't changed any settings on my phone so not sure why it's suddenly forgetting to hide it. First time I've had this problem since the new mobile site and I've had it set to hide pretty much since then! Confused

iPhone4S
iOS7
Safari

Hi there GiveMeCheesecake thank you for letting us know we'll see if we can get that to happen for us and find a fix Smile

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:13

@PolterGoose

iPhone iOS 7 something on Safari

I'm having issues with the chevron button, keep getting taken to active convo's or sponsored discussions and other random places when I tap it. It was fine last week.

Hello, hmm nothing we've released today should have impacted the chevron menu but we'll take another look tomorrow to try to work out what's happening. Thank you for letting us know

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:19

Just to reiterate to others who have mentioned it, we are working to remove the adverts outside our control from sensitive topics asap. We're very keen not to cause upset and are working as fast as possible.

If you do have any other thoughts on the adverts fixed at the top or inline, please do let us know on the Mobile site adverts thread

Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 02/09/2014 22:19

@ItsNotEasyBeingGreen

Nope no custom keyboards. They're fine again now, it was very peculiar.

How very strange... Thank you for the update we'll keep an eye out for future oddities.

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:01

@crabb

iPhone 4s iOS 7.1.x Safari

Don't know if it's already been mentioned, but when I turn the iPhone from portrait to landscape then back again, I'm taken back to some random post in the previous couple of days, not where I was, and certainly not to my bookmark.

While doing this post, the keyboard seems to randomly freeze for several/many seconds. Especially after I try to scroll up to check what I've written. Does this go together with very slow reaction times for other functions, like opening the chevron and ellipse menus, and opening in-post pictures? (That's taking 30 + seconds). I know you were going to work on speed issues this week. That's probably the single most frustrating aspect for me now, the rest is coming together.

I know aesthetics are not a priority but when you get to it, I'd really love to see some colour, not the pale grey. It's really hard to distinguish OP's posts from the others. I love the blue and green colour scheme from the desktop site.

I can't imagine how much angst this is causing you, not to mention tech hours. Nothing is ever as simple as it seems with computers! I really appreciate all the efforts you're making. And I'm also in awe of all the input from unpaid MNers. This is a special site.

Hi crabb, thank you that's very useful to know. We've been turning phones this way and that during testing but we'll keep trying Smile

Note about colours, we'll have a think about how to make highlighting less subtle and perhaps with a bit more colour.

We agree Mumsnet is a special site! Grin and send HUGE thank yous to all mumsnetters who have been so responsive and willing to help us get mobile talk right. Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:02

@Lumineer

Hey look, this is random... Poster's name and date are reversed on the screen.

Oh how very odd Lumineer thank you for screengrabbing that one, we'll take a look.

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 09:09

Germgirl and ItsNotEasyBeingGreen, thank you for the update we still haven't tracked down the strange icons mystery but have found reference to it sometimes happening when some iPhone users have downloaded certain emoji apps or keyboards. ItsNotEasyBeingGreen if you don't have any keyboards installed do you have any emoji apps at all?

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 17:19

Hello all,

Tech have just released some updates to the mobile site so you may have noticed a momentary impact, including a bookmark wobble. Tech have sorted that now.

A note on some of the things we've introduced:

A link to unanswered threads under the chevron menu as requested.

Within the customise options, an option to hide social media and to 'show thread options'.

If you choose to show thread options you'll be able to watch and hide a thread directly at the topic/Active level via an ellipsis menu.

We'll be updating the Beginner's guide to reflect the new additions asap.

Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 17:47

Hello Poltergoose please go to 'customise' and turn on 'Show thread options'.

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

Having said that, they are a bit visually distracting in a big list if titles like Active. Is there anyway they could be made less bold/ thread titles made more bold?

Interesting feedback thank you ItsAllGoingToBeFine, shall pop it as a thought alongside other design discussions occurring Smile

JessicaMumsnet · 03/09/2014 18:58

@TheRealMrsSmith

Galaxy S3 Android 4.3 Google chrome

Hi don't know if this has been mentioned but the new layout no longer highlights thread titles on threads I've already read. Keep opening posts only to find I've already read it Sad

Thanks *TheRealMrsSmith, we shall investigate...

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:11

Hello, thank you all for pointing out changing colour for read threads, we'll take a gander at that one.

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:12

Biscuit related problems we're on it now, we just wanted to wait until the webchat was over before fiddling...

Thanks

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:14

[quote TeenyfTroon]? 'And it's getting better...' ?

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:15

@Romeyroo

Just to say I am still struggling with the visual aspects, and can only go on the mobile site for short times; otherwise I get a headache. The adverts to break up the text (not sure if I should let on to this) does not work as the adverts don't show up on my phone - therefore creating more white space (kind of the opposite to what you intended). There is just a white box which says Advertisement in the corner.

This may be my anti-virus software, though. I just checked on my DD's i-touch and I can see the adverts.

Anyway, I am going to get a new charger for an old Android tablet I have and see if that works any better for me. There is only so much of the Guardian I can read.

Hi Romeyroo, sorry you're struggling. Have you got an ad blocker of some kind?

JessicaMumsnet · 04/09/2014 15:17

@SoonToBeSix

Why has the font gone really small. I don't wear glasses but I feel like I need to now! Please tell me this is an error and isn't staying like this? Also re the white I thought that was going to change , it doesn't seem to have?

Hello, we haven't been fiddling with the font today promise! We made some changes the week before last to darken the font and make it heavier to reduce feelings of glare and we're adding the adverts inline to test out that approach.

If possible, could you screenshot what you're seeing?

Thank you Thanks

RichardTech · 04/09/2014 16:40

Hi there Spoonyforker - I don't think you are over thinking it at all. We would not directly accept ads of this nature from any of our advertisers; however we do run advertising from third-party ad network partners and annoyingly we do tend to get a small minority of unwanted ads appearing across our site.

I have blocked this particular advertiser and also activated an additional filter, so hopefully this will stop these insensitive ads from appearing across our site.

Thanks for reporting and sorry for any distress caused.

JessicaMumsnet · 05/09/2014 09:56

@Cadsuane

Still having some problems with my windows 7 Nokia 900 but it is more usable.

The blue bar is still stuck near the top of the page but I can now turn it off. Thanks for that hint.
The various buttons are now empty squares, most of them work but not the chevron so I can't access customise ( I could previously).
The First, Previous, Next and Last buttons are off to one side (left) and, unlike my ipod, don't tell me what page i am on (although it does say how many pages).
When I click on a specific post in threads I'm watching my ipod now takes me to where I want to go but my windows phone still takes me to the start of the thread.

New this week is that the opening posters posts and Mumsnet posts are no longer highlighted . (I have checked this option is still working on all my other devices). This is probably the most annoying thing.

I am also getting the Windows does not support this file type message when I try and post. (But don't try this often from my phone)

In better news I prefere the new add lay out and the glare is not so bad.

Hi there Cadsuane, Thank you for your update. We're having trouble replicating that on the Nokia but we'll try again and see if we can identify the problem so we can fix.

JessicaMumsnet · 05/09/2014 09:59

@Romeyroo

Thing is, for breaking up the space, ads every six posts don't help because long posts fill the screen anyway - I tried on DD's i-touch where I can see the ads. There is something about the font and amount of white which just does not work for me (headache related). I'm just giving up with the mobile site beyond five minutes.

Very sorry to hear that Romeyroo, it's a fair point regarding longer posts. We did increase the weight of the font but it is slightly more spaced than previously which might be the part which makes it appear to have more white.
