Morning all,

And welcome to the new thread!
Grin

As SarahMumsnet said at the end of the last thread, we have Tech on call for fixes this weekend, and various MNHQers will be here to talk and help wherever we can.

We'll be adding to the rolling list of bugs, glitches and dislikes (see below), so please keep the feedback coming. Do remember to list which device you're using, which operating system, and which browser, so we can identify the specific issues.

Right then, who's first?

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

DawnMumsnet Could you also sticky this thread to top of active?

Done!

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 11:29

@Teawaster

Where is the option to see all messages on a post instead of looking at each page? Sorry of it's been covered before but I don't have time to go thru each page of previous mobile threadsSmile

Hi Teawaster

In case you haven't spotted this in the list of known glitches, here's what it says:

No 'All posts on one page' button - please keep the feedback coming, but you can do this via customise under the sub-menu. (NB you must be logged in to see the sub-menu: it's under the downward-pointing chevron under the three main icons in the top right of the page)

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 12:14

@Cadsuane

i'm using my Windows 7 phone (Nokia 900) with explorer. The biggest problem is the floating blue bar that doesn't float. After I load a page it appears and is then stuck. Obviously this is blocking out what is underneath. For example when I open the Talk menu I can see Becoming a parent, then the tool bar, which skims the top of Big?slim/whatever, but Being a parent is compleatly covered and unaccessable. If I go into Customise it appears over the Save changes box. This happens on every page. Sometime I can read what's underneath before it appears but usually not.

Is anyone else still having a problem with the floating blue tool bar or is this just a Windows issue now? If so, please post all relevant details and we'll see what can be done.

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 15:47

@SoonToBeSix

Also car phone warehouse moves, these ads are getting worse!

Thanks, SoonToBeSix,

We're still trying to establish if we can block these pre-emptively but for now are adding any reported moving ads to our list. Please keep us informed - we need brand names or screenshots.

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 16:04

@AnnieOnAMapleLeaf

iPhone 5s Safari

...and I can't post at all. It completely locks up my phone. I typed quite a lengthy post (my first on the new mobile site) with two issues I have noticed. I tried to post it and I got the circular loading graphic and then my screen went blue as if I had selected it all and was completely locked. I thought maybe it was just a glitch so I tried again with the same results.

I am on the PC now but am usually never on it (it is DH's baby). I need to be able to post on MN through my phone. What is going on?

Hi Annie

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 16:48

@IrenetheQuaint

The blue bar gets stuck over the text for me too. Also, there is nothing in the circles at the top (is there supposed to be?). And I can't see the dots in the bottom right corner, but if I press there the option box does come.

Please, please bring back the 'show all posts' option. I don't want to choose it as the default in the customise menu as then it will takes ages to load up every thread, when most of the time I'll only scan the top few posts quickly and navigate away.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Pro, Android 2.3.4, default browser

Hi IrenetheQuaint,

The empty circles problem cropped up a few times yesterday - it seemed to be specific to Samsung Galaxy models, but we'll add your SE Xperia to the list. If you tap on the (empty) circles, do any options show up? Such as 'Search' or 'List Topics'? Hopefully they're functioning, even if you have to use a little guesswork! Tech are working on this as we speak.

As for the missing dots/ellipses - this also seemed to be a problem for the Galaxy folk. As you say, if you jab where the dots ought to be (to the right of subject line), a drop-down menu should magically appear.

All rather unsatisfactory, admittedly, but it's on the list and will be sorted!

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 16:58

@springbabydays

Elquinto I was getting that yesterday where just clicking next page chucked me off the internet.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc android.

Concerned that the issue of posting then screen freezing hasn't made it onto the list of concerns. I know I'm not the only one.

Also font size doesn't seem to be on the list. Lots have mentioned too much scrolling involved so could this be added too?

I'm still having to read this through one squinty eye, due to the

Hi springbabydays,

Thanks for flagging those issues - we'll add them to the rolling list. New one coming shortly.

Can we just take a minute to thank everyone for being so lovely and patient and reasonable today - it's very much appreciated. Thanks

DawnMumsnet · 23/08/2014 17:18

@Needasilverlining

DawnMumsnet why is it that specific technical queries are getting answers, but people who are generally finding the site unpleasant, difficult or annoying are being ignored?

Third thread and we're still getting a cheery tone - 'you'll learn to love it, these are just teething problems!'. (I doubt it, and they're not)

It is very frustrating and more than a little patronising.

We're sorry you feel this way, Needasilverlining.

RowanMumsnet responded to a similar question on yesterday's thread, so I'll copy in her response here:

We're really sorry you don't like it.

Obviously (well, we hope it's obvious) it was never our intention to take away something good and replace it with something crap.

Websites need to update, add some bits of functionality, re-jig menus and buttons and so on - it's how the web works. We've based the new mobile site on tests and analytics that gave us info about which functions were used most, which were under-used etc - and have tried to 'foreground' heavily-used ones.

Obviously we haven't got it completely right, but overall we're really hoping that when users have got used to the new appearance - and we've added some new functions and changed those that are really annoying people - you'll mostly find it's a cleaner, slicker, better experience.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:00

Evening all! I'll be here to try to answer any questions and pass any queries on this evening. Do come and say hi so I know I'm not the Only Person In The World not watching Dr Capaldi later. I've cracked out a brand new notebook for this. Come. Fill it. Bring gin. And mobile woes. We shall eventually overcome.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:11

Right - to the questions:
Needsasilverlining No, we promise we're not glossing over anything. We're really grateful for feedback on anything and we are listening. If you could see the mammoth notebook I have here you would laugh out loud, honestly.

It's simply a case of we have a lot to do and a lot to put right, and it just makes sense to deal with what we see as big glitches first. If there are people who can't post at all, or can't access whole sections of the site, we really have to solve those problems asap.

We're aware that some of the 'aesthetic' problems are really serious - eg flashing things, pages that are potentially migraine-inducing, and we're prioritising those, too. But something has to take a back seat, so we're afraid that's having to be some of the other aesthetic stuff - just for now.

Please don't feel that we don't care about it though, we genuinely do and we genuinely want to hear everyone's opinions on it. It's also some of the stuff that takes a bit more thought and consideration, so that's why there are no immediate fixes for that.

Apologies if we've come across as being flippant or similar. It's probably gallows humour. It's been a tough week for HQ and all Mumsnetters, we know. We're just trying to keep spirits up. Hope that explains things a bit.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:19

Sunbathe we hear ya. Sorry about the headaches. We'll add your TIO issue to the TIO uber file, and log your portrait/landscape issues. Thank you.

Doubtfiredear Thanks. Lots of Samsung Galaxy users are having a variety of issues wiith functionality. We'll make sure we add these to the list.

Laddertothemoon Your first and last points are quite worrying. I've logged them now. Very annoying for you - apologies. Thanks for all the ideas on aesthetic issues. Yes, we're not able to prioritise everything, but we're keeping careful notes of all these points and it's interesting to know what people think. Thank you.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:21

And thanks Polter - just suddenly felt rude to leave you out! Wine

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:28

Hi again Needsasilverlining. No snark taken. I'd love to be able to comment on what went wrong, but, to be perfectly honest, I'm just here for the reports and the lolz (not so much this week!). The techier side of it is a bit beyond me, and I don't dare stop them doing All The Big Fixing right now to ask or Lord knows how long it'll take! I'm sure all will become clear as things get sorted out. Sorry not to be more informative!

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:32

Edwinia's revenge Think it's probably included under the umbrella of something else similar, but that's obviously not very clear to anyone reading it. But fear not - it's definitely been logged. I'll put it on the updated list on this thread later so everyone can see it's already been reported a few times and is being looked at. Thank you!

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 19:41

Thanks Plentyofpubegardens. We've logged that this is not just an iOS problem. Ta!

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:12

Aw! Thanks for all the support and sympathies but mostly the gin . Had a look through the most recent posts - apologies I can't reply to everyone individually - and these are all things that are on our uber list, so will be looked at - pinkie promise. We're keeping a rolling list of the main issues here on this thread, but in all honesty, if we listed every single issue on there it would take you all night to read it. So if you don't see something on the list here please just ask, and we're not ignoring it - just trying to save you all eye strain! Thanks again.
Ooh - Greenrememberedhills - a good point and well made. Will make sure that is passed on. I personally think, regardless of eye conditions, white text on a coloured background is the devil's own work and up there with green biro, but will ensure the tech types are informed. Thanks!

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:19

LEM! Don't go! I've just had a new gin delivery - stay for that at least. So sorry about this. What device are you using etc? May not be able to help tonight but would like to at least log people who are still having issues with TIO as it's got a lot better for some people.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:23

MaryZ you are so not wrong. I've just changed my will to leave my children to the care of Itsallgoingtobefine. I feel all calm and zen every time I see her post on this thread! And we know there are many others doing sterling work to help us out. Mumsnet medals all round, when this is all over and we're back home . Thanks all!

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:36

LEM - don't! Lalalala. There are no other boards tonight! Thanks for the deets on your device etc. Will pass that on (and order you in a Doom - fine taste, you have!)

PetiteRaleuse - apologies if you've tried this and am patronising you wildly but are you one of the people who has nothing in the 'three circles' on the top right of your screen? If so, try tapping in the middle one and then you should be able to access your account from there. Sorry - it's hard to know what people can see and how to explain it. Hope that helps. Let us know if not.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:39

PS - LEM meant to say, we know there are big issues with Galaxy and Nokia users that we're trying to sort out asap. That might just be something that is rubbish until it's sorted. Do check in on the thread every now and then - I'm sure there will be updates as things get 'cured'. We appreciate it does just suck with all the force of a Dyson in the meantime, but hope it helps to know it's not just you and we're doing all we can with those devices.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 20:53

IAGTBF! How are the kids? Wink

Thanks for that. It's logged.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 21:50

Rest assured, Plentyofpubegardens, we fully understand that if anyone was having a whinge they were pretty much entitled to do so this week. Hopefully the workarounds will make things bearable until they can be properly sorted, and things do seem to be on the up, thankfully.

IonaMumsnet · 23/08/2014 22:35

Edwinias - we can see you on the thread! Is that, um, sort of good news?! Sounds like a bit of a nightmare getting there. Keep us updated on whether you're getting in or not via mobile over the next few days.
