On the back of the thread "if you've changed your MN nickname ..... "

It might be too much to ask .... but is there a chance that you could list the "number of posts" next to the username ...

Might be a silly request .... but at least we'd know that some "NEW names" are infact name-changers and hence Old posters ...

Thanks

number of posts
dear god no
imagine the humiliation....

NotQuiteCockney · 08/09/2006 22:00

Um, if we did this, then people could (possibly) work out who a namechanger was, by looking for a regular with the same number of posts?

hairymclary · 08/09/2006 22:03

what about a little title which could change depending on how long you've been here/how many posts you've had
newbie
(smething middle-ish)
expert mumsnetter

etc etc

Crystaltips · 08/09/2006 22:05

Ok - Ok ...

I'm just the thick one then

p'raps the first post date then

Oh SOD IT forget it ...

I'll have to post more often so I can get to grips with all the new names

BettySpaghetti · 08/09/2006 22:06

or a coloured star system like ebay based on nos. of posts

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/09/2006 22:10

God, next you'll be asking for tickers

Tech, crush this revolution

CarolinaMoon · 08/09/2006 22:10

but spotting the trolls and identifying the namechangers is half the fun, surely?

Crystaltips · 08/09/2006 22:56

get my coat then ?

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 08/09/2006 22:58

Yes, it's too much to ask. B/c no f*cking tickers, 'no. of posts', time logged in, signatures, etc. is what makes this site great.

ilovecaboose · 08/09/2006 22:59

Some other sites award 'points' depending on number of posts - it can lead to people just posting just to bump up their points or ignoring/discounting those with not enough posts (snobbery basically). I think thats why a lot of sites get rid of it/avoid it - causes more trouble than its worth kinda thing.

WigWamBam · 08/09/2006 23:01

I like MN because of its simplicity - the fact that we don't have number of posts, grading systems, tickers, dancing emoticons, signatures, blah blah blah makes it easier just to get on with the conversation. The minute they start bringing in those things is the minute I pack my virtual bags and walk.

Twiglett · 08/09/2006 23:20

awwww you leave crystaltips alone .. she's great

(crap idea though lovey )

Crystaltips · 09/09/2006 10:06

Thanks Twig ... you're all quite right !

it's just I can't keep track of who's who ... just found out that Scatterbrain was still about !

AllieDelOllio · 09/09/2006 10:11

perhaps we could have those ticker things that are a certain colour, depending on how longyou've been a member?

FillyjonktheFluffy · 09/09/2006 10:13

Oh, ROFL at this.

This has cheered me up, after my essay and cultivation order filled shite-hole of a morning.

That reminds me, have not changed my name in some time.

suejoneziscalmernow · 09/09/2006 10:14

Dnacing emoticons? There are site with Dancing Emoticons? And nobody told me? I WANT A DANCING EMOTICON.

Mum2FunkyDude · 09/09/2006 10:35

Uhhmmm. What is the point of changing your name? To stay anon? Why then disclose your old name? Unless you were just bored I guess?

FillyjonktheBananaEater · 09/09/2006 10:42

Two reasons for changing name apart from it being fun

  1. for anonymity. often people post with problems they don't like associated with their usual avatar.

  2. Sometimes people b*x up big time on a thread, and want a fresh start. So change their name.

I actually think both reasons are very valid. Also I don't want to create a hierarchy of posters-let what people say, rather than number of posts, speak for itself.

And what if you're someone like me who has lots of posts because I don't preview properly? I would have an unfair advantage.

(poor crystal...)

AllieDelOllio · 09/09/2006 10:56

we want dancing emoticons
we want dancing emoticons

suejoneziscalmernow · 09/09/2006 11:57

AllieDelOllio - can we set up a campaign? No-one else seems to want them on this thread . What kind of dance do they do WWB, you tantalised me with them... lambada, waltz..?

AllieDelOllio · 09/09/2006 12:07

they are shit sue, we'd get knee-capped before we even started..

VestibularProwess · 09/09/2006 12:09

Perhaps a colour coding. Under 100 posts would be green, obviously. 100 - 500 yellow. 500 - 1000 blue. 1000 - 2000 red etc.

Twiglett · 09/09/2006 13:05

what colour would 52,483 posts have then?

just wondering you understand

AllieDelOllio · 09/09/2006 13:05

brown and smelling of marmite probably

suejoneziscalmernow · 09/09/2006 17:47

you think our dancing emoticons are doomed from the start then?
