in fact all of the changing ads at the top are doing my nut in.but especially the bear and dog ones.not want you want to see when you're on m/n for 10 minutes of fun.

I agree, I don't need to see that, makes me mad

soapbox · 08/09/2006 22:16

That's an odd reaction KW

Makes you sad I can understand but mad.

Why????

VeniVidiVickiQV · 08/09/2006 22:18

I dont much like it either. The WSPA one that is.

CarlyP · 08/09/2006 22:19

your on here getting help, or having a nice time, y not help someone else to help an animal....

badkarma · 08/09/2006 22:20

Do you mean mad that someone can do that to a poor defenseless (sp) animal?

kittywits · 08/09/2006 22:29

It makes me mad, just like when I'm at the gym
( not v. often ) watching one of the music channels on t.v, enjoying myself ( as much as I can at the gym!) and up pops a bloody nspcc ad. that's it I'm bloody crying, really upset.
I know it happens but I don't want it rammed down my throat. What's the point of them? All the people who care are going to be doing something anyway. It feels like an assult. It's the same with the bear, you can't escape it and it spoils my enjoyment. I really hate cruelty full stop, but it's not right to force these sort of ads on people when they are 'trapped' of course that's exactly what these people want to do. It's stiil wrong imo.

CarlyP · 08/09/2006 22:33

its reality.
sh!t happens, even if you want to be 'having fun'.

kittywits · 08/09/2006 22:42

shit does happen, but this isn't ok. We can't all be miserable all the time spending all our time thinking about all the shit that happens. People need a space where they can unwind and it's wrong to encroach on that.

WigWamBam · 08/09/2006 22:47

We know shit happens ... doesn't mean we need it in our faces all the time. It's like these awful mailshots that the NSPCC and animal charities send out - their sole intention is to cause distress, because they think that a big impact will mean you donate to them, not to another charity with less emotive advertising. Except that with the charity letters you know what's coming and can avoid them if you choose ... you can't avoid that thing flashing up at the top of the screen.

No, i didnt like the 4 x 4 ads either. Nor do i like the "winter" easyjet one.

Agree, its encroaching a little. Hate it, the same way I hate having a tin rattled at me as i walk into a supermarket with someone sat on their arse saying "cancer kills".

alexsmum · 08/09/2006 23:46

i can't satnd any of these flashy ads to be honest.much better when it was just boden/john lewis etc. i find it really annoying. and the bear one is horrible.even if i donate it's still there staring at me.

OP posts:
lucy5 · 08/09/2006 23:48

I don't appear to have any of these adverts????

alexsmum · 08/09/2006 23:48

lucky you!

OP posts:
misdee · 08/09/2006 23:50

yes lose the bear ad, and the easyjet one.

ruty · 09/09/2006 09:15

perhaps with the bear one it should disappear from your screen only if you donate.
I don't have a problem with it - there are a lot of upsetting things and subjects on MN but they are there to appeal for help and so is this.

cupcakes · 09/09/2006 09:22

would everyone be happy to go back to subs then? I imagine MN make more revenue out of these ads than they did with the voluntary member subscriptions.
For what it's worth I don't like the dog one, it makes me sad. I just scroll down the screen quickly to avoid it. I wonder if the charity has actually had any donations yet from this advert.

kittywits · 09/09/2006 15:54

Ruty, that would work along the same lines as protection rackets then. That would be extortion really. Pay the money then you won't suffer, bit dodgy that one.

ruty · 09/09/2006 20:54

it was a bit of a joke kittywits. But seriously I don't like the 4x4 ads, but I accept them as they raise revenue for MN - I don't like seeing animals suffer but they do and so a happy to see an ad trying to raise money to protect them.

kittywits · 09/09/2006 23:59

ok

JustineMumsnet · 14/09/2006 23:06

Hello,
So sorry we didn't respond to this earlier. Currently we say no porn, no Nestle, no political, no formula milk to the people who serve the ads for us... we could add animal charities to the list if lots of folks felt strongly about it but then again it seems a bit skew wiff if those charities consequently end up with fewer donations. I'm pretty sure the people who serve our ads don't have the ability to know whether you've seen/ donated already as it stands...
Anyway let us know you feel strongly one way or t'other.
Thanks

brimfull · 14/09/2006 23:36

I also don't like them, don't want to click on it to donate because I'll probably be bombarded with more horrendously upsetting images I really don't want to see.

EnidsFanjo · 14/09/2006 23:43

I agree about hte sad bear

no more please

just waiting for the NSPCC to do a spoof mumsnet site ad

ruty · 19/09/2006 13:08

but the poor bloody bear is going to suffer even more if no one sends any money to the charity. Terrible things happen to animals. And children. And the more we turn our backs on it the more it will happen. I am reaaly quite cross that it is more important not to offend our delicate sensibilities than to show ads for compassionate charities.

southeastastra · 19/09/2006 13:09

keep the bear
