Can we have a proper 'woo' topic?

Dear MNHQ, I fully believe in freedom of speech and experiences, and as such I go out of my way to assist those who are asking more angelic/psychic etc questions, since this is my real life in a nutshell. Getting sooooo fed up of threads becoming all about others who don't believe and blatantly attacking those of us on thread who want to actively discuss and share and I think a lovely new topic of 'woo' or something you feel is an appropriate title could be provided for us to have proper sharings and discussions.

I want some imaginary helpers Garlic, will they do the ironing too?

Now a psychological emotional support topic would be good, with practical non woo solutions like garlic mentioned.

GarlicJuneBlooms · 05/06/2014 21:36

They're smarter than that, Unreal, they explain how to avoid ever needing to iron Grin

Now your topic idea, I like vairry much! People could pop their angels in there, if they really had to ...

unrealhousewife · 05/06/2014 21:40

Angels could be tools I suppose. Do we let Paul McKenna in?

GarlicJuneBlooms · 05/06/2014 21:41

He's a tool!

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 21:46

Psychological support - that'd do it.

Garlic, when you say: "I use imaginary helpers as a self-compassion tool, as recommended by various renowned psychologists. I don't believe they really exist, but they help anyway - my own mind is doing all the work" - that's what I do too; but that's why I'm interested to hear how other people use the concept of imaginary helpers.

With feathers, I use them as a prompt to mindfulness and memento mori.

It's interesting to look at how people use stuff like this to get by. I'd like to discuss it, without being sneered at and de-railed.

On Christian threads, they don't get loads of people coming on every bloody time to say: "Immaculate conception? Are you kidding?" Yet that is at the heart of Christianity. And indeed it was an angel wot done it.

elfycat · 05/06/2014 21:48

GarlicJuneBlooms the debate you are asking for can never happen here. There would be too many anti woo comments for anyone to wade through for the argument. We need an 'ignore poster' option so the anti-woo could be filtered out.

Personally I think it wwould be one heck of a thread with over half the comments invisible and a woo bunfight weaving through.

IndigoBarbie · 05/06/2014 21:49

Thanks MNHQ You totally rock...

Can't wait til CoteDAzur sees a ghost in RL, and then has to reassess the reality of existence like very many of us have had to do. It's all part of the craziness that is life. Woooooooooooo! Wink

At the very least, we could discuss the line between woo and non-woo.

And how something like Transcendental Meditation moves from woo to non-woo.

And whether it works to do woo things or non-woo things if you think it's all a load of baloney.

CoteDAzur · 05/06/2014 21:53

"Immaculate conception? Are you kidding?"

That happens quite often actually.

If and when you have a woo topic, don't think people won't come in and remind you that all that voodoo is not real and doesn't work beyond the placebo effect.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 21:55

Generally concerted de-railing doesn't happen to Christian threads to an extent which closes them down.

LadyWithLapdog · 05/06/2014 21:55

Did I hear TM? Does anyone do TM and would like to discuss about it?

LadyWithLapdog · 05/06/2014 21:55

PS - I'm totally scientific minded but interested in TM.

CoteDAzur · 05/06/2014 21:56

"Can't wait til CoteDAzur sees a ghost in RL"

That may be a long wait, Indigo.

I love how you say that as if everyone sees ghosts at some point and it is only a matter of time until I see one, too Grin

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 21:57

You don't need that "but" in your post, Lady, thanks to recent research. The medics are with you.

IndigoBarbie · 05/06/2014 21:58

Cote, never say never. That's all I'm sayin'......Wink

There's self help, alternative therapy and there's woo. The twains never meet, nor should they.

Woo is spirituality isn't it? Isn't that where it belongs?

CrotchMaven · 05/06/2014 22:02

It was established, over multiple thousand post threads, that the Feminism topic was about Feminism, not for feminists.

So, tough. You could have a woo board, but it would have to be about woo, not a place excluding non-woo-ers, subject to usual Talk guidelines.

Otherwise, MNHQ would have to deal with multiple threads about policy. Again. And again. And again.

unrealhousewife · 05/06/2014 22:02

Côte I haven't seen mine yet either, still waiting...

CoteDAzur · 05/06/2014 22:11

As Crotch said, if you get your woo topic, we'll be there with you Grin

I know what you are hoping is to have the numbers to shout down anyone who points out the error of your ways, but facts, reality, and theory will still not be on your side. So good luck with that.

CrotchMaven · 05/06/2014 22:20

Did we kill the thread with reason, Cote? :-D

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 22:21

It's not actually a war.

We just want to chat.

gamerchick · 05/06/2014 22:26

Yes we do just want to chat Hmm

So what you're saying cote is that you are going to purposely (and gleefully it seems) going to derail every single woo thread so it descends into a fight and eventually dies.. as what happens with all of them?

Just for the record like.

CrotchMaven · 05/06/2014 22:28

Quite. That's what the feminists wanted too, but it was thrashed out and MNHQ decided on their policy.

I think there were lots of suggestions of ignoring the naysayers and starting off-MN boards.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 22:34

The point is, though, that feminists, like Christians, do manage to talk amongst themselves on MN.

CrotchMaven · 05/06/2014 22:40

No, they really do not. And if there is a thread where that seems to be the case, it has been because of ridiculously hard work on the boards and behind the scenes, with multiple casualties along the way.

So, I'm sorry, if the woos got a protected board, there would be an uproar. If something like women's rights on a female dominated site didn't get it (not to mention the hell that SN advocates have to go through on here) , there will be plenty who have a lot to say if woo-pedlars get one.
