Can we have a proper 'woo' topic?

Dear MNHQ, I fully believe in freedom of speech and experiences, and as such I go out of my way to assist those who are asking more angelic/psychic etc questions, since this is my real life in a nutshell. Getting sooooo fed up of threads becoming all about others who don't believe and blatantly attacking those of us on thread who want to actively discuss and share and I think a lovely new topic of 'woo' or something you feel is an appropriate title could be provided for us to have proper sharings and discussions.

Yes it is.. but you're just not allowed to chat about these things in there without a slew of non believers stamping all over it. It really is quite irritating.

It's like it offends them so they won't let it lie. Odd!

sunbathe · 05/06/2014 00:42

Yes, that's really annoying when there's an interesting woo thread going.

And pretty rude, imo.

FourForksAche · 05/06/2014 00:47

Surely zebra's right.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 00:48

How about calling the topic "Mind, Body, Spirit" like the annual conference thing? Different from religion and philosophy.

FourForksAche · 05/06/2014 00:49

Can I suggest "utter bollox" as the name if the site does this?

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 00:51

QED.

FourForksAche · 05/06/2014 00:52

I'm in! Come on MNHQ, you know you want to!

RabbitPies · 05/06/2014 01:01

I love this idea. A safe haven for woo believers to talk without such ghastly things as common sense, science and facts disrupting them.
Keeping all the anti science crap in one place would also do wonders for my blood pressure. And prolong the life of my Ipad because it's cme close to being hurled out of the window on several occasions now.

FourForksAche · 05/06/2014 01:09

Would actual facts and science be banned from this area?

RabbitPies · 05/06/2014 01:14

It certainly seems as though they would be,judging by the responses so far,and also the fact that it's a topic dedicated to all things woo.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 01:17

Unanimous, then.

GarlicJuneBlooms · 05/06/2014 01:21

Can we have a Piss And Vomit topic, too?

It could be called 'Science' :)

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 01:24

I was thinking of suggesting "Mind/Body/Spirit/Neuroscience" as a better topic title.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 01:31

Because it would cover this kinda thing:

www.cmrpconference.com/

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 05/06/2014 02:02

Except that mindfulness and neuroscience isn't really woo. And certainly not in the sense that angels and psychic stuff that the OP is talking about are.

You are going to have a real problem trying to keep out people who are going to tell you you are talking total bollocks if you stick neuroscience in the topic title.

GarlicJuneBlooms · 05/06/2014 02:51

But 'cognitive mindfulness' would cover several therapeutic modalities proven to help the symptoms of schizophrenia, DID, BPD and various other disorders of the mind ... or have I passively-aggressively missed the point? Wink

Your other link was just as interesting, MrsRT. It said that optimists live longer, healthier lives. Is optimism woo, do you think?

IndigoBarbie · 05/06/2014 06:53

:D
Yep, just a new topic for umbrella of things like this....

OP posts:
CoteDAzur · 05/06/2014 07:17

"Things like this"?

Cognitive mindfulness, optimism, and meditation are real. Their benefits are proven. They are not woo.

You have missed Garlic's point.

SallyannFanackapan · 05/06/2014 07:18

Another vote for yes please...

TheSpottedZebra · 05/06/2014 09:46

but you're just not allowed to chat about these things in there without a slew of non believers stamping all over it. It really is quite irritating.

So would the new topic be a safe haven from religious people who don't want their beliefs allied to woo? Or cynics/nay-sayers who don't agree with the whole lot?

Not really sure that you can ring-fence an area from discussion - isn't that missing the point of the internet and MN - that there is free speech? Would the issue really be how to make it more 'respectful', if that's what you feel the problem is?

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 09:49

No, I haven't missed the point at all.

A couple of years ago, or possibly even less, mindfulness, positive thinking and meditation would have been dismissed as completely and utterly woo.

Now there is tons of evidence showing their health benefits and every damn doctor and shrink in the country is pushing all three like the world was going to end.

So it would be good to at least be allowed to open one's mouth on MN and say some words without being hounded off thread.

CoteDAzur · 05/06/2014 09:50

Indigo missed the point. I wasn't talking to you.

MrsRTea · 05/06/2014 09:51

The idea would be to be able to say: "This is the Mind/Body/Spirit/Neuroscience topic, we are allowed to discuss such matters here, if you don't like it, please find another topic to ridicule us in." This is what happens with Feminism.

LittleMisslikestobebythesea · 05/06/2014 09:52

I think its a great idea :)

I love threads like that and if it's all in one place it saves me searching for them!
